In the upcoming expansion of James Gunn’s revamped DC Universe, The Office star Rainn Wilson has expressed interest in taking on the role of Plastic Man. Rainn Wilson expressed interest in playing DCU Plastic Man to James Gunn

At Fan Expo Chicago’s latest event, Rainn Wilson disclosed that he proposed the concept of introducing Plastic Man into the DC Universe setup to James Gunn, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.

Wilson mentioned to James on multiple occasions, “You know, buddy, it’s about time you bring Plastic Man into the mix. He’s always been one of my favorite DC comics characters, and he held a special place in my heart ever since I was young.

Introduced in comic books back in 1941, the character known as Plastic Man was originally Patrick “Eel” O’Brian, a former criminal. During a botched heist at a chemical plant, O’Brian mysteriously gained the ability to manipulate his body shape at will. Rather than continuing his life of crime, he chose to use these supernatural powers for the greater good and adopted the identity of Plastic Man.

Speaking fondly of the character, Wilson remarked, “He possessed an offbeat sense of humor that made the Plastic Man comic books absolutely hilarious. Rediscovering that series would certainly be entertaining.

59-year-old actor Wilson expressed his enthusiasm for the DCU’s Plastic Man role, but stated he’d still enjoy watching a project featuring the eccentric superhero, regardless of who Gunn chooses to cast. He added, “I would be a fan even if I wasn’t in it, and I’d love to play him.

Wilson appears to be an admirer of Gunn’s take on the DC Universe. Regarding Superman, the actor from The Office expressed that he found Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor portrayal in the movie particularly enjoyable, noting, “I thought the LexCorp or LuthorCorp, whichever it was in the film, was brilliantly crafted by James as a massive, imposing, corporate conglomerate. That was quite impressive.
