The next Superman film, tentatively titled Man of Tomorrow, will feature a fresh storyline for both Lex Luthor and Superman when they reappear in the DC Universe in 2027. Building on the success of the 2025 Superman movie, DCU’s first chapter, “Gods and Monsters,” is already in development to bring the iconic hero and his rival back to theaters.
In a recent interview with Variety, James Gunn discussed his upcoming Man of Tomorrow film, which is scheduled to start filming this year. He revealed that the story will primarily focus on the relationship between Clark Kent (Superman) and Lex Luthor. Gunn also shared that he personally connects with both characters, understanding Lex’s drive and focus (though not his violent tendencies) and identifying with Superman’s optimism and strong moral compass, describing them as different aspects of his own personality.

DC Studios has announced that Man of Tomorrow will be released on July 9, 2027. Before that, Supergirl, starring Milly Alcock, is scheduled to premiere on June 26th.
