James Gunn Reacts to The Batman 2 Script, Addresses DCU Batman’s Debut

James Gunn has shared his reaction to the script for The Batman 2.

Matt Reeves’ film “The Batman” hit U.S. theaters in 2022. After the premiere of a series centered around The Penguin, it’s anticipated that a direct follow-up, titled “The Batman: Part II,” will debut in October 2027. Reeves and Mattson Tomlin have recently submitted their script for “The Batman 2” to Warner Bros.

What did James Gunn say about The Batman 2 and the DCU?

Discussing with Josh Horowitz on The Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gunn expressed his thoughts about the script for The Batman 2.

He agreed, expressing that we’re on track and moving towards the correct path, though there may be a few kinks left to iron out.

Gunn additionally discussed the DCU’s Batman and mentioned that it’s unlikely that both “The Batman 2” and “The Brave and the Bold,” helmed by Andy Muschietti, will hit theaters in the same year.

Gunn has declined to reveal which DCU project will feature the official debut of the new Batman portrayed by DCU, nor has he confirmed who will take on the role. In the past, he’s emphasized that it won’t be Robert Pattinson and won’t merge Reeves’ The Batman: Epic Crime Saga with the DCU.

When questioned about the frequent mention of Alan Ritchson in Batman fan discussions, Gunn responded, “I’m a huge fan of Alan Ritchson, both as an actor and as an individual. So, we’ll simply have to wait and find out what transpires.

In brief, although Batman appeared briefly without dialogue in Creature Commandos (an animated series), no casting was necessary for this role. On the other hand, it’s possible that Clayface, a nemesis of Batman who is set to debut in 2026, might introduce DCU’s Batman in an upcoming movie. Since production on this project is about to start, casting decisions will have to be made promptly.
