The DC Universe rumors continue to float around, as James Gunn tackles another report.
Someone recently asked James Gunn on Threads about a rumor that a director might soon be chosen for the Teen Titans movie. After a post circulated suggesting Euphoria‘s Sam Levinson was being considered, Gunn responded that the rumor is false. He stated they aren’t currently speaking with any directors and dismissed the source of the information as unreliable.
James Gunn has confirmed that Dan Lin is still involved with the Superman film, and Gunn’s comment that things aren’t final suggests the planned team-up movie hasn’t been cancelled. They may be considering finding a director for it sometime soon, or further down the line.
As a big DC fan, I was really excited to hear back in March 2024 that a live-action Teen Titans movie was finally happening! What made it even better was learning that Ana Nogueira, who’s already working on the new Supergirl film starring Milly Alcock due out this summer, was tapped to write the script. She clearly understands the DC universe, so I’m feeling optimistic about this project!
Nogueira is also writing the new Wonder Woman movie for the DC Universe, giving Wonder Woman her own dedicated film within Gunn’s shared universe. Because Wonder Woman is a higher priority for DC Studios right now, the Teen Titans project has been temporarily paused, but it hasn’t been cancelled.
The Teen Titans have long been a popular and recognizable part of DC’s lineup for Warner Bros., thanks to numerous successful animated series and their significant presence in the comics. HBO Max also featured the live-action series Titans, which presented a darker and more realistic version of the team.
The first chapter of the DC Universe, “Gods and Monsters,” has shown that the new DC continuity already includes many well-known heroes and villains as part of James Gunn’s reboot. Because of this, adding a team like the Teen Titans would fit naturally into the ongoing DC Studios franchise.
James Gunn recently shared news about the upcoming DC superhero movie, but it remains to be seen if the script is progressing well. DC Studios has stated that no film will begin production until the creative direction of the screenplay is completely settled.
The characters from past Teen Titans movies offer a strong foundation for the new DC Universe. If Wonder Woman gets made quickly, it could give Nogueira the chance to continue developing her vision for the team within Gunn’s shared superhero world.
