James Gunn has confirmed a rumor about his upcoming project, and it’s great news for Superman fans!
DC Film News recently shared on X that James Gunn has confirmed David Fleming, the composer behind the well-received score for Man of Tomorrow, will be returning for the sequel. Gunn reportedly stated simply, “Yes, Dave is back.”
Who Is David Fleming — And Why Are Fans Excited He’s Back for Man of Tomorrow?
David Fleming composed the music for the new Superman movie, alongside John Murphy. This wasn’t Fleming’s first major film score – he’s had a long and successful career composing for features. After Superman, he went on to compose the music for Eternity and the recent Anaconda reboot, which stars Jack Black and Paul Rudd.
Fleming is a highly-awarded composer. In 2024 alone, he received two prestigious honors: the ASCAP Screen Music Award for his score for The Last of Us, and a Primetime Emmy Award for his original dramatic score for the documentary series Jim Henson Idea Man.
The movie Superman was a huge hit when it came out, earning over $618 million despite costing about $225 million to make. Critics loved it too – it currently has an 83% “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on over 500 reviews.
The movie Superman was a success with both moviegoers and critics. It currently has a very high 90% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on feedback from over 250,000 viewers.
What’s Next for Superman on the Silver Screen?
Shortly after Superman came out, it was confirmed that David Corenswet will reprise his role as Clark Kent in a sequel. The director, who is also co-head of DC Studios, initially referred to the follow-up as Man of Tomorrow, but has since said he prefers to avoid overly descriptive titles like “Superhero Name: Another Name.” The film has also recently added new cast members.
Before the movie Man of Tomorrow hits cinemas, David Corenswet will reprise his role as Superman in Supergirl, which stars Milly Alcock. Supergirl is scheduled for release on June 26th, and Corenswet will make a brief appearance, similar to his cameo in Superman.
The show will focus on the everyday lives of the staff at the Daily Planet, featuring a large cast with Skylar Gisondo playing Jimmy Olsen. David Corenswet, who plays Superman, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, won’t be in many episodes, likely because their characters are dealing with larger storylines elsewhere.
Man of Tomorrow is expected to arrive in theaters on July 9, 2027.
