James Franco gives devastating update on friendship with Seth Rogen
As a longtime admirer of both James Franco and Seth Rogen, I must say it’s disheartening to see their friendship seem to have come to an end under such unfortunate circumstances. I remember the days when they ruled Hollywood with their hilarious collaborations, from Freaks and Geeks to Pineapple Express. It feels like a chapter has closed without us even realizing it was happening.
James Franco recently shared a somber update about the current status of his relationship with Seth Rogen, which is reportedly strained, more than three years after Rogen publicly stated that he’d stepped back from their friendship.
In a public move, Seth, aged 42, distanced himself from his co-star, who is 46 years old, following allegations and lawsuits that claimed the individual had acted inappropriately and made sexual advances towards students.
And it seems as though Seth has had zero interest in rekindling their friendship.
During a chat prior to the premiere of his latest movie titled Hey Joe, James mentioned that he hasn’t spoken with Seth for some time. He expressed his affection for Seth, stating they enjoyed a fantastic 20-year partnership, but it seems their bond has ended now.
‘And not for lack of trying.’
He added to Variety: ‘I’ve told him how much he’s meant to me.’
Back in January 2018, it was reported by the Los Angeles Times that five women claimed James had behaved inappropriately or exploitatively towards them on matters of a sexual nature.
The text explains that James was responsible for removing protective covers from the actresses’ private areas during a simulated oral sex scene.
In 2019, Sarah Tither-Kaplan and Toni Gaal filed a lawsuit against James, alleging that he aimed to establish a stream of young women who were exposed to his personal and professional sexual misconduct under the guise of education during their time at his Studio 4 acting school.
At the time, James denied the allegations via his attorney.
He eventually settled the lawsuit for $2.2 million in July 2021.
At first, back in 2018 when the accusations emerged, Seth expressed to Vulture his intention to carry on collaborating with James.
However, in May 2021, he openly changed his stance, confessing to Britain’s Sunday Times that he wouldn’t.
In simpler terms, Seth expressed that he strongly dislikes any form of mistreatment or bullying, and he would never hide or downplay such behavior nor intentionally place someone in a setting with someone who exhibits such actions.
In my professional journey, I’ve made a conscious choice not to collaborate with Franco since the allegations of sexual misconduct against him surfaced in 2014 and resurfaced in 2018. It’s no accident that our paths have diverged in recent years due to these serious claims.
That December, James said it was ‘hurtful’ that Seth had ‘no plans to work with him in the future.’
On the Jess Cagle Podcast of SiriusXM, James expressed that while it was painful in context, he understood why his friend had to respond on his behalf since he remained silent.
‘He had to answer for me, and I don’t want that.
‘The primary motivation behind my conversation with you today is that I no longer wish for Seth, my brother, or anyone else to take responsibility on my behalf.’
Throughout the span of their friendship, James and Seth appeared in several collaborative ventures, one of which was the critically acclaimed NBC series “Freaks and Geeks.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but gush over the fact that I’ve seen this star in some of my favorite movies! From the hilarious stoner comedy Pineapple Express to the apocalyptic buddy flick This Is the End, the heartwarming biopic The Disaster Artist, and the satirical political drama The Interview – it seems like there’s no end to this talented actor’s repertoire!
In recent times, James has mostly avoided the limelight, but he’s preparing for a return to Hollywood stardom as his latest movie, titled Hey Joe, hits the screens.
Under the direction of Claudio Giovannesi, James stars as Dean Barry – a former American World War II soldier who, after a gap of 25 years, revisits Naples in search of his long-lost son.
The film had its debut at the 19th Rome Film Festival on October 25, and it’s set to hit Italian theaters on November 28.
