Actor LeVar Burton shared, “James Earl Jones…there simply isn’t anyone else with his unique blend of charm.

In a statement, Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, noted that James Earl Jones has lent his voice to some of the most iconic characters in film history, from the sage-like Mufasa to the ominous Darth Vader.

A well-known theater actor, boasting almost 200 roles in films and TV shows, his stories came alive with an exceptional, dominating aura and a deeply soulful essence. His impact on audience members spanning generations remains undeniable.

In the year 1964, Jones first appeared on the screen in the role of a bombardier, in the darkly humorous classic film by Stanley Kubrick titled Dr. Strangelove, which became renowned as a masterpiece.

Over the subsequent decades, the award-winning stage and screen actor consistently kept both fields active by continuing his film career and also regularly performing on stage.

In his most renowned character, Darth Vader, David Prowse, a former bodybuilder, is the one wearing the iconic black costume, not him.

Jones was handpicked by Star Wars creator George Lucas to provide Darth Vader’s chilling voice.

Previously, Lucas had pondered over casting Orson Welles for the part, but felt he could be too identifiable. Instead, he chose Jones to recite lines from the script. It took only a short while for him to complete the task.

Despite his pivotal role, Jones earned just $7,000 for his work on the first Star Wars film.

Later on, he revealed that a string of ads that came afterward actually made up for it, expressing, ‘They looked after me well.’

At first, Jones wasn’t keen on receiving credit for his work, as he viewed his voiceover roles as simply integral aspects of the film’s sound design.

In the end, he consented, and his distinctive voice became iconic as it shaped Darth Vader’s character in numerous movies, TV shows, and video games.
