James shared that at first, their writing was quite poor, and they were grateful they hadn’t contacted the BBC because they thought they would never be able to write well enough again.

We reached a point where we’d probably finished about halfway, then we read what we’d written and thought, “This is really bad, poor quality, disastrous.

It’s amazing to think back on how narrowly we avoided contacting the BBC; I distinctly recall us expressing relief and saying something like “Thank goodness we didn’t.

After finishing dinner at my kitchen, I mentioned that it seemed appropriate for us to revisit the show, discuss its flaws, bid it farewell, and perhaps share our thoughts on why we find it problematic.

We were on the verge of giving up, thinking that we couldn’t continue with it as it wasn’t up to the mark.

Ruth commented, “However, it became clear – a fact consistent throughout each installment of Gavin and Stacey – that the primary reason these characters end up together is due to Gavin and Stacey themselves.

‘So we realised it wasn’t working because there was nothing substantial for them’.

James went on to say: “That’s when, around 11 o’clock at night, we conceived the idea of Stacey holding onto the matches. This alteration completely transformed the scenario.

‘We rang the BBC the next day and so we went from it being dead to like, oh no it’s alright.’

Within mere minutes of the hour-long documentary, fans readily admitted they were already overcome with emotion, shedding tears as they grappled with the reality that the iconic sitcom would no longer grace their screens.

This special program gave viewers a sneak peek into the creation of the much-anticipated final episode, while also reminiscing about the series’ beginnings and its 17-year history.

On Christmas Day, Gavin and Stacey’s finale garnered an astounding 12.5 million viewers, making it the highest-viewed television program of the day.

For five long years, fans eagerly anticipated uncovering the destiny of the cherished characters from the BBC sitcom and discover whether or not Smithy agreed to Nessa’s proposal.

Viewers praised the last episode as “absolutely perfect,” finding themselves moved to tears when the much-loved series, which had been running for 17 years, concluded its broadcast.

10 million viewers tuned in to the BBC, making them victorious in the channel ratings race, during the broadcast of Wallace & Gromit’s comeback show titled “Vengeance Most Fowl.

The television show, initially aired in 2007 and developed by James Corden and Ruth Jones, reached its end with the perpetual on-again-off-again couple Smithy and Nessa eventually confessing their feelings for each other and getting married, albeit not without some unexpected setbacks.
