James Bond fans finally have some news about who will play 007 next, and it’s likely what many expected. It’s been four years since Daniel Craig retired from the role, and ever since, there’s been constant speculation about who will take over, with a new possible actor appearing in the news almost every week.
As a Bond fan, I’m really excited about how things are moving forward this year! Ever since Amazon and MGM got involved back in February, they’ve finally put a creative team together. We now have Denis Villeneuve directing and Steven Knight writing the next film, which they’re calling *Bond 26*, and it feels like the project is really gaining momentum.
According to a new report in *Deadline*, we might not find out who the next James Bond will be until next year. Director Denis Villeneuve is focusing on finishing *Dune: Part Three* before starting the search for his lead actor. Filming isn’t expected to begin until 2027, meaning the movie likely won’t be released until 2028.
What to Read Next
We already had a good idea of what they were looking for in the next James Bond – a male actor in his late 20s or early 30s, and British. That meant actors like Jacob Elordi and Austin Butler weren’t likely candidates. However, the latest news confirms they’re specifically searching for someone relatively unknown to take on the role.
This probably means many of the actors often mentioned as possibilities for the part won’t be considered. That includes popular choices like Tom Hardy, Henry Cavill, and Idris Elba, who are all established actors in their 40s and 50s.
We’ve known for a while that actors who’ve played this role have typically been around 38 years old. Looking back, the youngest was 30 (George Lazenby) and the oldest 46 (Roger Moore), so this new requirement fits with what we’ve seen before.
The latest news suggests that Aaron Taylor-Johnson, previously a strong contender for the role, might be too old by the time filming begins – he’ll be in his late 30s. Along with other well-known actors like Tom Holland and Harris Dickinson, who also meet the age requirements, he was considered a likely candidate.
Before becoming famous, Craig wasn’t a major star, but he had appeared in a few well-known films like *Elizabeth*, *Road to Perdition*, and *Lara Croft: Tomb Raider*. He even shared the screen with big names like Cate Blanchett, Tom Hanks, and Angelina Jolie in those movies.
James Norton, known for his role in *House of Guinness*, has confirmed he won’t be the next James Bond. He told *The Mirror* he believes producers are looking for a younger actor, explaining that he recently turned 40 and feels he’s aged out of the running.
He explained that there’s no truth to the rumors. He believes someone is deliberately trying to stir up trouble, possibly as a publicity stunt, and that’s why he’s been dealing with paparazzi camped outside his home. He insists everything being reported is just speculation.
Norton confessed he wasn’t certain he’d take the job if it were offered, explaining that it’s a life-altering choice and therefore a tough one to make.
No matter what happens, the person who gets the job will probably be a surprising pick. Get ready for a bit of a shock!
