James Bond fans react to shock change impacting 007 future: “RIP James Bond”

As a gaming enthusiast, I was taken aback by an unforeseen revelation concerning the upcoming chapters of a cherished game franchise that’s been close to my heart – the iconic 007 series.

From now on, the creative reigns for future James Bond productions will no longer be held solely by long-term producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. Instead, Amazon MGM Studios will take charge of these creative decisions following their formation of a fresh partnership with Wilson and Broccoli.

In simpler terms, Amazon, along with Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, have teamed up to create a shared company. This collaboration serves as the custodian for all the creative rights associated with James Bond, meaning they will continue to share ownership of the iconic franchise.

In summary, once the deal is finalized, Amazon’s MGM Studios will have the power to make creative decisions regarding the James Bond series.

Fans of James Bond have expressed deep disappointment over the news, referring to it as “the end of an era” and “a farewell to James Bond.

One fan expressed their sentiments as follows: “And that concludes James Bond. I’m excited for approximately 7000 spin-offs and an endless stream of films, much like the Marvel series, to be released annually.” Another fan chimed in: “This news is significant, and unfortunately, not in a positive way.

On BlueSky, one enthusiast reacted to the announcement with an iconic line from the show: “They’ve got you marked for death, Mr. Bond.

Since 2022, Amazon has been granted the authority to disseminate James Bond films, following its acquisition of MGM. Nevertheless, creative control over these iconic movies remained with Wilson and Broccoli until recently, meaning that fresh Bond projects required their consent before being produced.

In his own words, Wilson announced that after a remarkable 60-year run in the world of James Bond, he is choosing to devote himself to artistic pursuits and philanthropic endeavors, no longer involved in producing the films.

Consequently, Barbara and I concur that it’s now appropriate for our reliable ally, Amazon MGM Studios, to guide James Bond towards the future.

Broccoli expressed that his life’s work revolves around preserving and expanding the exceptional heritage bestowed upon Michael and himself by their producer father, Cubby Broccoli.

For years, I’ve been privileged to work closely with four incredibly skilled actors who portrayed James Bond, as well as countless talented artists in this field. Now that No Time To Die has wrapped up and Michael is leaving the series, I believe it’s time to devote my attention to other ventures.

Mike Hopkins, Chief of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, expressed excitement about leading the way into the next chapter of the iconic James Bond series.

He acknowledged the significant contribution made by Albert R Broccoli, Harry Saltzman (who are no longer with us), for introducing James Bond to cinemas globally, and praised Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for their relentless commitment and pivotal role in upholding the beloved franchise’s legacy, which is cherished by fans all over the world.
