James Bond casting curveball revealed amid search for new 007 after Daniel Craig left franchise

Denis Villeneuve is reportedly set to lead the search for the next James Bond.

The James Bond film series hasn’t had a main actor since Daniel Craig finished his run in ‘No Time to Die’ in 2021.

Many popular actors, such as Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, have been considered for the part over the years, but director Denis Villeneuve will be heading up the casting process next year.

The director, age 57, will be making his debut with the next James Bond film and has been chosen to find the perfect actor to take on the iconic role and continue the series.

According to Deadline, Denis Villeneuve plans to start working on a new project after he finishes making *Dune: Part Three*. He’s looking for a newcomer – someone not yet well-known – to star in it.

Recent reports confirm the next James Bond will be a male character, staying true to the original creation by Ian Fleming. He will also be of British or Irish origin.

Even though people have been talking and guessing for years about who will be the next James Bond, we won’t find out until 2026.

Earlier this year, Taron Egerton dismissed rumors about potentially becoming James Bond, stating he’s not polished enough for the part.

Many people expect the 35-year-old actor to be the next James Bond after Daniel Craig, but Taron Egerton thinks there are plenty of other talented, younger actors who could also do a great job.

When asked if he’d be interested in playing James Bond, he told Collider he didn’t think he’d be a good fit, saying he’s ‘too messy’ for the role.

‘I think I’m not— I really love James Bond and particularly Daniel Craig’s tenure.’

He admitted he wasn’t the right fit for the role, believing younger, talented actors would be much better suited. He felt he wouldn’t do it justice.

Taron admitted that taking on the role of James Bond would be a huge challenge. He also hinted that the massive scope of the films might not be a good fit for him personally.

The actor, known for playing Sir Elton John in the 2019 film *Rocketman*, said he still wants to pursue ambitious projects and isn’t opposed to doing something more mainstream. He clarified that he’s definitely open to opportunities that are also commercially successful.

I feel like I’m at a point in my life where I’m really focusing on projects that inspire me creatively.

‘But, you know, I’m sure I won’t feel that way forever.

Playing James Bond is a big commitment, and as far as I know, no one has even asked me to consider it.
