James Blunt says he’s ‘relieved’ after backing out of legally changing his name to ‘Blunty McBluntface’ following public vote
As a lifestyle expert with years of experience under my belt, I can say that James Blunt’s decision to back out of changing his name is a wise one, considering the potential chaos it could have caused in his daily life. His humor and playful attitude towards the situation are refreshing and show his ability to connect with fans on a personal level. If I were in his shoes, I would probably feel relieved too, as changing one’s name can be a significant and potentially overwhelming decision.
James Blunt has backed out of legally changing his name to ‘Blunty McBluntface’.
If his latest album reached the top position on the charts, the British vocalist had promised to bring about a change – however, it failed to do so.
If the music from the 2004 album “Back To Bedlam” by the 50-year-old reaches number one by October 18th, he has promised to change his name to whatever the public decides.
Nevertheless, his album managed to achieve a decent position on the charts, reaching number seven – significantly lower than the coveted first place.
On a Friday, Blunt made an appearance on Australia’s The Project, expressing his sense of relief that he wouldn’t have to alter his surname.
I’m incredibly relieved… This is due to the fact that, if my album had been released by a different label, I would have changed their name to whatever the British public decided. And they decided on that name, he stated.
‘I’m happy because my wife promised to change her name to her maiden name’ he added, laughing.
Blunt playfully mentioned that if given the chance, he would have preferred to be known as “Jimmy Spliff.” Additionally, he shared the nicknames his kids came up with for him.
‘I have kids and they really wanted Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Pop Star’ the 5′ 8′ hitmaker added.
Two decades back, Blunt unveiled his album “Back To Bedlam,” which boasted popular tracks like “You’re Beautiful,” “High,” “Wisemen,” and “Goodbye My Lover.
The album climbed its way to the number one position on the United Kingdom’s album charts for several weeks, eventually earning a 10-times Platinum certification.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news! To mark its 20-year milestone, the iconic Hampshire Star is bringing back one of its most beloved albums and embarking on a tour. If you’re a fan, this is your chance to relive the magic and create new memories. Don’t miss out!
The reveal was made in the sketch video showing him trying to enter a Warner Music Group building, only to be stopped by the front desk as they wouldn’t accept his name as ‘James Blunt’.
Later, he unsuccessfully attempts to gain entry using several popular names such as ‘Jimmy Spliff,’ ‘Blames Junt,’ ‘Divock Origi,’ ‘James Cocking Fun,’ and ‘Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Pop Star Four-Chord Song Machine.’ However, these monikers do not grant him access.
Looking deflated his final guess is then ‘Blunty McBluntface,’ and he is finally granted access.
In a state of fervor, I can’t help but murmur under my breath, “It seems folks lack creativity.” To this, the receptionist at the desk offers a witty retort, “The masses have made their voices heard.
In a video shared on Instagram, the singer earlier mentioned: ‘I am James Blunt, and you hold the ability to potentially disrupt my life significantly.’
You may have come across the whispers, and indeed they hold truth – I’m set to re-release my first album titled ‘Back To Bedlam’, which will be available starting October 11. An endeavor that has maintained my financial prosperity for the past two decades.
As a token of gratitude for your support, if Back To Bedlam reaches the top of the charts again, I am considering a legal name change. The new name, however, will be chosen by you, my cherished fans.
In the course of my life, I’ve been labeled with various nicknames, from ‘the most despised figure in pop’ to ‘a nuisance,’ even ‘James Beige.’ Ultimately, it’s up to the public to judge for themselves.
After that, he mentioned: ‘However, if it fails to reach the top spot, I won’t alter my name. It’s fair to assert that this is undoubtedly the most critical democratic event of the year.’
James reiterated the same promise while appearing on Radio X’s Chris Moyles Show.
He stated that he is open to letting the public decide on a new name for him, and that the choice ultimately lies with them.
‘It’s a genuine thing. I swear on my life and the life of my one fan – Brian from Glasgow – I will change my name should it hit number one.’
The performer went on to say: “Absolutely. I promise by Brian’s and my own lives. Whatever the audience desires – and surely the audience is compassionate, they wouldn’t favor anything that sounds like ‘Blunt’, would they?
‘But you know, as long as it’s not, you know, Blunty McBluntface.’
James explained to the radio host that it was a way to encourage fans to purchase the new album.
It was his first single that topped the charts, titled “High,” which was then followed by the hits “Wiseman” and “You’re Beautiful.
James mentioned, ‘Our first release was ‘High’. We decided to go with it, and it started gaining some airplay across Radio X, which feels like a second home for me!
He added: ‘And then we put Wisemen out, and the album got into the top 20 and then came the killer, You’re Beautiful, in 2005 at that stage, and the rest is a terrible, terrible history!’
On October 11, they launched the reissue celebrating its 20th anniversary, which features several unheard tracks such as Standing All Alone, Close Your Eyes, Butterfly, and the B-side song Sugar-Coated.
