Jake Gyllenhaal to lead new romance from The Notebook author
It’s been confirmed that Jake Gyllenhaal will be starring in a new romantic film, with the screenplay penned by the writer of “The Notebook” and directed by the same person behind “Old”.
According to Deadline, the actor is set to feature in a collaborative project between writer Nicholas Sparks and director M. Night Shyamalan – a “supernatural romantic thriller.” The pair have jointly conceived this concept and will simultaneously work on a novel and screenplay to delve into the idea using both literary and cinematic storytelling methods.
Each story will be adapted to suit its unique audience, despite sharing the same theme and characters.
M. Night Shyamalan’s production company, Blinding Edge Pictures, is planning to create a movie, and there are talks underway for Warner Bros to distribute it in cinemas.
2024 turned out to be a successful year for Shyamalan, primarily due to his movie titled “Trap“, which tells the story of a father who takes his teenage daughter to a concert, unbeknownst to them that the entire event is actually a setup to capture a serial killer – and it’s him.
The movie, conceptualized as “If ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ unfolded during a Taylor Swift concert,” received varying reviews from critics but managed to earn a decent sum at the ticket counter. It appears to be garnering steady success on streaming platforms as well.
2020 turned out to be a standout year for Gyllenhaal, as his remake of the 1989 film “Road House” garnered massive popularity on streaming platform Amazon Prime Video. In fact, it set a new record as Amazon Prime’s most-viewed original movie to date.
Not just a sequel was swiftly greenlit, but the actor’s own production house, Nine Stories Productions, inked a significant three-year contract with Amazon MGM Studios. This deal grants them priority rights for any future projects developed by the company, encompassing both cinematic and streaming releases.
Last year, rumors circulated suggesting that the actor might land a lead part in the second season of Netflix’s series Beef. However, when the cast list was revealed, his name did not appear on it.
