Jake Gyllenhaal and Cate Blanchett go viral for awkwardly trying to avoid a Selena Gomez photobomb at Emmys

During the Emmy Awards, Jake Gyllenhaal and Cate Blanchett had to lean forward to avoid being in the background of a photo featuring Selena Gomez.

Selena was seated with the people she was closest to: her fiancé, Benny Blanco, was to her right, and her “Only Murders in the Building” co-star, Steve Martin, was on her left.

When a photographer attempted to photograph Selena, Jake and Cate quickly crouched down to avoid being in the shot.

A funny video of Selena, 33, quickly became popular online, showing people bursting into laughter as they tried to follow along with whatever she was doing. E! News originally shared the video.

Steve, an 80-year-old with a dry wit, playfully asked them to lower their heads. Jake, 44, and Cate, 56, happily obliged, laughing. Cate then playfully raised a hand, partially obscuring Selena’s face.

A man’s voice called out, ‘Stop that!’ but it just made her and Jake laugh more. He kept repeating, ‘Your hand is blocking the view!’

It was just so funny watching Selena and Steve! They were both laughing throughout the whole thing, and I was right there with them. Benny, though, he was the calmest of us all, just sitting there with a quiet grin. It was a really sweet moment.

Later in the evening, Selena surprised Cate with a hug from behind, and Cate happily hugged her back.

Steve and Selena are executive producers of the show *Only Murders in the Building*. Although it was nominated for best comedy series, it didn’t win-Seth Rogen’s *The Studio* took home the award instead.

Cate Blanchett received a nomination for best lead actress in a limited series or movie for her role in *Disclaimer*, a suspenseful thriller directed by Alfonso Cuarón.

Leila George, who was recently married to Sean Penn, plays a younger version of Cate Blanchett’s character in the film. The cast also includes well-known actors like Kevin Kline, Lesley Manville, and Sacha Baron Cohen.

This Sunday, Cristin Milioti, known for her role in ‘How I Met Your Mother’, won the award for ‘The Penguin’, an HBO miniseries starring Colin Farrell as the Batman villain.

Jake Gyllenhaal was nominated for an award for his leading role in ‘Presumed Innocent’. He plays a man caught in a scandal when his colleague and lover is murdered, and he becomes the prime suspect.

This miniseries comes from David E. Kelley, the creator of popular shows like Ally McBeal and Big Little Lies. It’s based on a novel by Scott Turow, originally published in the 1980s, and previously adapted into a 1990 film starring Harrison Ford in the same role that has now been portrayed.

Stephen Graham won the Emmy this Sunday, beating out Jake for his role in ‘Adolescence,’ a show where he portrays the father of a teenager accused of murder.

Owen Cooper played the boy in the show and, at just 15 years old, made history by winning an Emmy Award – making him the youngest actor to ever receive one.

Owen said Jake was his dream celebrity to meet. Then, in a video shared by Netflix just before the Emmy Awards, Jake made Owen’s wish come true by unexpectedly visiting him at his hotel, which thrilled the young actor.

Before the show, Jake kindly gave Owen a little ceramic duck for good luck. He explained that he’d received a similar gift from a friend when he was nominated for an Oscar, hoping it would bring Owen the same good fortune.
