Later on, Packer and Rich played significant roles in establishing the communications firm called One.Tel. Eventually, Adler was appointed as one of its directors.

In 2001 One.Tel was placed into administration.

In 1998, three years prior, Adler was responsible for the acquisition of FAI by HIH. Shortly afterward, he assumed the position of director at HIH.

However, around the turn of the millennium, a catastrophic event occurred in his life. His company, HIH, crumbled, causing losses worth approximately $5.3 billion for its investors. At the same time, he personally profited $2 million from this collapse.

In 2005, Adler admitted guilt for four counts connected to the company’s downfall. Though he could have been sentenced to serve up to 20 years in prison, he ended up serving a minimum term of 2.5 years in jail instead.

He also paid a total of $8.9 million in fines for himself and Ray Williams.

So far, Adler and his spouse, Lyndi, had been frequent attendees in Sydney’s social circles, consistently making substantial charitable contributions, notably within the Jewish community.

Mrs. Adler and her four kids – Jason, Romi, Natalie, and Charlotte – stood by the fallen businessman during his stint in prison.

Back in 2015, Adler opened up uncommonly in an interview, sharing insights about his jail experience. He revealed that he believed he was still bearing the consequences of his past wrongdoing.

As a connoisseur of lifestyle and societal trends, let me express it this way: “White-collar crimes seem to carry an endless sentence – a punishment that continues long after the deed is done… If I were a common criminal, I could return home and blend back into society, but not for those in white-collar circles.

Presently, this entrepreneur runs a loaning enterprise from an office situated within the central business district of Sydney.

He was banned from sitting on the board of any companies until 2021 as part of his 2005 punishment.
