Okay, so this just happened and it was a bit awkward! I was reading about Jaden Smith being interviewed, and the moment the interviewer brought up Kanye West, Jaden just…walked off! It completely caught everyone off guard, and honestly, left the interviewer pretty puzzled. It’s definitely a statement, and makes you wonder what’s going on behind the scenes with their friendship.
The 27-year-old, whose initial fashion line with Christian Louboutin received criticism, attended the premiere of Druski’s ‘Coula Been Love’ season 2 in Hollywood on Wednesday.
A video is circulating online showing Complex reporter Jillian Hardeman-Webb asking Pharrell Williams about his collaboration with designer Steven Smith, who previously worked with Kanye West. She asked what the two were creating together.
As soon as Kanye West’s name was mentioned, the Karate Kid actor immediately walked off the interview and down the red carpet.
You know, while on camera, Hardeman-Webb had this really puzzled look, and with a little laugh, she basically admitted we might just never know what she was talking about! It was a funny, slightly mysterious moment, honestly.
Daily Mail has reached out to Smith’s representatives for comment and has yet to hear back.
Smith and West, both 48, share a long and complex history. They’ve been friends for years, and Smith even attended West’s wedding to Kim Kardashian back in 2014.
In 2019, Will Smith was developing a Showtime series where his son, Jaden, would have played a version of him from another reality. Will Smith was also an executive producer on the show.
Their relationship appeared to struggle during Paris Fashion Week in October 2022, when Smith left West’s Yeezy fashion show upset, similar to how they reacted during the interview.
His departure followed a controversial moment when Kanye West and Candace Owens publicly wore shirts supporting the slogan ‘White Lives Matter’.
During the fashion show, Kanye West had model Selah Marley – who is Bob Marley’s granddaughter and Lauryn Hill’s daughter – wear one of his sweatshirts. The sweatshirt also had an image of Pope John Paul II on it.
Smith posted a trio of tweets alluding to his exit from the Parisian fashion show.
Jaden Smith, son of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, explained on social media that he left an event because he didn’t connect with the message being shared. He stated, ‘I had to leave, no matter who it was. If I don’t feel the message, I’m out,’ and added his support for the Black Lives Matter movement.
Jaden Smith showed support for a tweet praising him for leaving Kanye West’s concert when shirts with the slogan ‘White Lives Matter’ appeared. The tweet called his reaction ‘a true king’ move.
West claimed on Instagram that the Black Lives Matter movement was a fraud and is now finished, adding ‘You’re welcome.’
Like West before him, Smith has ventured into fashion, but his first menswear collection for Christian Louboutin received criticism from fashion bloggers.
In September, the actor and rapper achieved a milestone by becoming the first Creative Director for the men’s line at Christian Louboutin.
As a huge fan of Jaden, I was so excited to see his first collection at Paris Fashion Week last month! Honestly, people seem pretty divided about it – some are loving it, others aren’t so sure. It’s definitely sparked a lot of conversation, though!
Fashion bloggers online have been enthusiastically discussing the new collection, particularly Jaden’s bright red, fluffy shoes. Many have jokingly compared them to the shoes worn by Ronald McDonald and the character Elmo.
“I can’t believe this is happening,” said style influencer Kevin Shephard, clearly frustrated. “I really wanted him to succeed, and I’m incredibly disappointed.”
‘This man took the opportunity of a lifetime at Christian Louboutin and fumbled it,’ he added.
Fashion critic Carlysle sparked controversy on TikTok by comparing a pair of $2,990 faux-fur red boots to a skinned Elmo, and a furry belt to pubic hair.
Art and design commentator Anjela Freyja shared on TikTok that she feels the situation is starting to seem pointless, likely because the person involved is very young.
She explained that while his red boots were visually striking, his overall design approach felt more focused on making a statement than on solid design principles. She added that this is a typical challenge for designers just starting out.
The TikTok account ‘I Went To The Art School’ sharply criticized a piece, claiming it appeared to be a beginner-level student project being marketed as a luxury item solely due to the artist’s well-known name.
People online ridiculed Jaden after he presented a $1990 ‘tactical vest’ – which he called ‘formal wear’ suitable for a wedding – and showed it off.
‘I wouldn’t wear that harness to the airport, ok hun?’ commented fashion columnist Stacey Duguid.
