Jade Thirlwall Reveals She Was ‘Bribed’ and ‘Blackmailed’ by Male Music Bosses

Jade Thirlwall has shared that she once felt pressured or manipulated, and even incentivized with rewards, by men in the music industry as she climbed her way up to stardom.

Previously a member of Little Mix, now embarking on her solo journey under the name JADE, has announced she’s reclaiming her power and establishing fresh limits to safeguard herself, as she felt trapped in a difficult situation.

In an interview for Stylist Magazine, Jade, aged 32, revealed a decision she’s made to regain control: avoiding professional collaborations with men she hasn’t previously encountered, following some unfavorable encounters.

She expressed that in the context of the music industry, she no longer wishes to be pressured, coerced, or influenced through inducements. Instead of being faced with ultimatums such as “Choose this as a single, or you won’t get this,” she prefers to have more freedom in her decision-making process.

As a seasoned industry insider, I value my own growth and experiences. It’s essential for me to shape my journey without being swayed by older men’s perspectives, which can sometimes be challenging given the complexities of this field.

I decline one-on-one sessions with men I haven’t previously met, due to past encounters that have shaped my decisions in this regard.

‘It’s sad I have to make that decision, but it’s what I have to do to protect myself.’

The popular singer reminisced about being advised on how to behave and what to wear by males. She described this as a challenging tightrope walk, as she didn’t want to come off as excessively provocative while still feeling powerful.

The performer behind “The Angel of My Dreams” acknowledged that she might face cancellation for expressing her views on multiple topics, but she’s content with bearing the repercussions.

Jade rose to popularity together with Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jesy Nelson as members of the highly successful girl band Little Mix, which was established during the X Factor competition in 2011.

2024 saw me ecstatically welcoming the birth of her debut single, “Angel of My Dreams,” a moment that still resonates with an electrifying thrill. Since then, she’s graced my playlists with more enchanting tunes: ‘Fantasy’ and ‘IT Girl’, two tracks that have only deepened my adoration for her unique sound.

At the forthcoming BRIT Awards, JADE has been selected as a contender for both Song of the Year with ‘Angel of My Dreams’ and Pop Act. Additionally, she is set to make her solo debut performance at the music event taking place at The O2 in London on March 1st.

After Little Mix fans were set abuzz, when the band’s social media platform posted their initial update in two years.

The three-member band consisting of Jade, Perrie Edwards, and Leigh-Anne Pinnock decided to pursue individual paths following the conclusion of their Confetti tour in May 2022.

Fans erupted with excitement upon spotting the trio’s comeback on social media, as they believed the group was officially announcing reunion plans.

Despite the excitement surrounding Jade’s two Brit Award nominations, many fans were let down when Little Mix urged their 17 million followers to vote for her.

Jade’s debut single “Angel Of My Dreams” and her pop performance have garnered recognition as Song of the Year contenders and she was fan-voted as a Pop Artist.

Accompanying a brief compilation video showcasing some of Jade’s notable achievements during her solo career, they wrote, “Attention all Mixers…” This could be rephrased as, “Here’s a quick look at some of Jade’s solo career milestones. Let’s get the attention of all fellow Mixers…” or simply, “Join us for a glimpse into Jade’s solo career journey so far. We’re calling out to all Mixers.

People swiftly flocked to the comments section, expressing that they thought they were going to have a heart-stopping moment upon receiving the notification, only to be let down as there was no reunion news announced instead.

Anticipating the reunion gave me a shock, similar to a heart attack – OMG, I couldn’t help but scream and feel sick with nostalgia! This sudden post notification has left me in need of a moment to collect myself.

As a devoted fan, I’m still holding onto the hope that they’ll return to this account. Initially, I thought their recent post was an announcement. Oh boy, my heart leaped when I saw LM had posted! Don’t get me wrong, I’m thrilled about their solo careers, but I miss LM so deeply.

Last summer, Jade unveiled her first solo track, which climbed to the seventh spot on the United Kingdom’s Singles Chart.

Little Mix were originally a four-piece until Jesy Nelson quit the group in 2020.
