Jade Thirlwall makes ‘brutal swipe at Simon Cowell’ with her new single It Girl as fans pick up on thinly-veiled lyrics from the track
It appears that Jade Thirlwall may have made a subtle critique of her past music manager, Simon Cowell, through the indirect lyrics in her latest song.
Initiated her solo journey in 2024, the ex-member of Little Mix, now aged 32, released the single “Angel of My Dreams” as her debut. This was later followed by another track titled “Fantasy”.
However, on Friday, she unveiled her third song titled It Girl, and swiftly, her fans noted a particular line they perceived as a subtle jab towards her previous employer.
In the year 2011, the singer reached international stardom when she clinched victory on “The X Factor” along with Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jesy Nelson, and Perrie Edwards.
Previously, Jade had attempted to secure a spot on the ITV talent show on two occasions, but ultimately found great success later on with the help of a prominent figure in the music industry.
In the competition, she advanced as far as the Bootcamp round, and in her latest song, the phrase ‘I pass on you’ is repeated frequently. (This maintains the original meaning while using a more conversational tone.)

The phrase was a recurring saying used by Simon while serving as a judge on the show, and many viewers interpret it as an indirect criticism aimed at him.
One fan wrote on X: ‘The ‘It’s a no from me’ reference in the end is a masterpiece’
Another said: ‘omg is that Simon Cowell shade’
One individual commented, ‘It seems unfair towards Simon Cowell as Jade auditioned for him on three separate occasions prior to Little Mix.’
‘The first & second time she was rejected then the third time she was put in to Little Mix.’
And a fourth proclaimed: ‘The ‘It’s a no from me’ reference in the end is a masterpiece.’
Regardless, it has been clarified by Cowell’s representatives earlier that the Little Mix group put in tremendous effort to achieve the level of success they now enjoy.
In 2021, the team took a break, but their representatives assured everyone that there was no strife or tension among them.

A representative shared: ‘I believe the entire team who tirelessly labored behind the scenes with Little Mix to help build their fame, will undoubtedly keep rooting for their individual success in the future.’
TopMob has contacted Simon Cowell’s representatives for comments on the new claims.
Over the weekend, Jade shared a sneak peek of the video with her fans, only a few days following its initial release.
Instantly, the performer assumed an enigmatic stance, adorned with fishnet attire, while brandishing a sign that proclaimed “STAR.” She exuded a captivating allure wearing a sports bra and boots ensemble.
In a subsequent shot, I catch a glimpse of her walking off-camera, confidently sauntering away from the stage with bold letters spelled out on her back, mirroring my unwavering admiration for her.
