Jade Thirlwall admits she has a ‘daily battle with herself to not go on Ozempic’ after past eating disorder struggles

Jade Thirlwall has disclosed that she battles every day against the urge to use Ozempic, following several years of grappling with eating disorders.

The Little Mix member, aged 32, who became well-known on The X Factor in 2011, shares that she’s currently at her best health level yet. However, she continues to face continuous remarks regarding her weight when browsing the internet.

Talking to The Guardian, she revealed: ‘I have a daily battle with myself not to go on Ozempic. 

While I don’t pass judgment on those who do it, due to my past struggles with eating disorders, I am uncertain about engaging in such actions myself, as I worry about where it might lead me.

She noted that becoming a solo star inevitably led to negative commentary, a regrettable byproduct often referred to as trolling: ‘Previously, Little Mix supporters championed self-empowerment and embracing one’s body regardless of appearance.’

In my thirties now, I’m proud to say I’ve never felt healthier, yet every time I share a photo, it seems the internet can’t help but speculate, with comments like, “Oh, she must be expecting!” Little do they know, it’s just me, living my best life!

She noted that it’s often women, but back then, when I was around twenty and struggling with an eating disorder, people were more accustomed to seeing me in a group setting due to my extremely thin physique, as opposed to how I am now.

Jade, about to launch her first solo album, candidly shared that her challenges with eating started during her teenage years. Grieving the passing of her cherished grandfather, she found herself battling anorexia at a young age.

By the time she auditioned for The X Factor, she had only just been discharged from hospital. 

She now acknowledges that the ITV talent show was incorrect in allowing her to participate when she was in such a vulnerable condition.

Regardless of her ongoing health challenges, Jade found success as a member of Little Mix, teaming up with Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jesy Nelson.

Collectively, they managed to sell over 75 million albums, achieved number-one status globally on music charts, and were honored with the Brit Award for Outstanding British Band.

But the relentless pace, industry pressure and constant scrutiny took their toll.

While Jade initially claimed she hadn’t slipped up then, she later acknowledged upon reviewing old photographs that she was extremely underweight.

She shared: ‘In the past, when I’ve felt like events are beyond my influence, I’ve often turned to limiting my food as an unhealthy method to regain control over my life.’

At her residence in southeast London, she resides alongside her boyfriend Jordan Stephens from the band Rizzle Kicks, as well as her closest companion named Holly.

For five years, Jade has been in a relationship with Jordan. This year, during an interview on Louis Theroux’s podcast, she shared that she knew Jordan was her ideal partner when he surprised her with a pasty from Greggs to cheer her up after Jesy departed from the band.

After learning about Jade’s sudden departure from Little Mix in 2020, she found herself overcome with emotion and weeping. On the other hand, Jordan reacted by going to pick up a sweet treat from a bakery for her as a comforting gesture.

As an overly enthusiastic fan, I can’t help but share this: “I was on a road trip bound for the north, destined to meet my beloved family. For what felt like forever, I found myself singing my heart out, pouring my emotions into a soulful serenade that lasted about an hour or so.

‘We parked up at services and he was like, ”do you want some peace?”. And I was like, ”yes”.’

In that moment, I realized he was a special one as he asked, “Can you manage to be alone for a while?” However, at that point, I was speechless and could only express myself through loud screams.

After venturing out to the local stores, I returned carrying a pasty from Greggs, and in that moment, my thoughts exclaimed, “That’s exactly what I was craving!
