Jacob Elordi caused a stir among fans when he spat his gum into his mother’s hand while at the premiere of Wuthering Heights in Los Angeles.
I saw Jacob Elordi, that adorable 28-year-old actor, looking a little embarrassed yesterday. He’d been enjoying a lollipop and, after finishing it (or mostly finishing it!), he sheepishly handed the chewed-up remains to Melissa, who was so sweet and just waited while he got ready for pictures. It was a really cute moment, honestly!
A video of the incident quickly spread online, sparking debate among viewers who were largely disgusted by what they saw.
In the video, the actor was walking the red carpet when he suddenly turned to his mother and discreetly gave her a piece of gum he’d taken from his mouth.
He playfully handed the item to Melissa as she reached for it, then continued walking down the red carpet.
‘This is not cute,’ one person wrote online, as another said simply: ‘Gross!’
‘I just audibly gasped,’ added a third.
‘Next time… swallow it… that’s what us women would’ve done… baby,’ someone else commented.
However, most fans came to Jacob’s defence and commended his mother for being a supportive parent.
‘Mum always to the rescue. I love how close he is with his parents,’ one person said.
‘Once a mum always a mum, red carpet or no,’ commented another.
Even actor Adrien Brody commented on the situation, despite facing criticism for tossing his gum to his girlfriend, Georgina Chapman, right before speaking at the 2025 Oscars.
‘Relatable,’ the star joked.
This follows Jacob’s confession that he felt anxious about acting in Wuthering Heights with Margot Robbie.
The actor is starring in the much-awaited new film, alongside fellow Australian actress Margot, known for her role in Barbie.
A new movie version of Emily Brontë’s classic love story, Wuthering Heights, will be in theaters February 13th, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
Margot, age 35, and Jacob star as Catherine and Heathcliff in the upcoming romance drama. The film is produced by Margot’s production company, LuckyChap Entertainment.
Jacob recently shared that he was quite nervous before filming began, as he was surprised by how large and elaborate the production was.
I was so thrilled to see him on the cover of Esquire UK! In the latest issue, he talked about how making this big movie really got to him. He admitted the older he gets, the more anxious he feels, and with such a large cast and massive sets, it was understandably nerve-wracking for him. It’s so relatable, honestly!
He was talking with Emerald Fennell, the director of Wuthering Heights, who explained that Margot Robbie is a massive global star, and acting alongside her is a huge opportunity.
Jacob admitted he started to doubt himself, questioning whether he’d prepared enough through studying and reading.
As a lifestyle expert, I often see situations where people pour their hearts and souls into something – long hours, sacrifices, time away from loved ones. It’s incredibly disheartening when someone comes along late in the process and tries to take credit or simply add something on top without understanding the foundation that’s already been built. It feels like all that hard work is minimized, doesn’t it? It’s about respecting the effort that’s already been invested.
I often feel pressure to live up to other people’s expectations, and acting always feels a little unreal to me. Maybe it’s because I dreamed about it for so long, it’s hard to believe it actually came true.
