Jackie O Henderson has reportedly cut ties with Kyle Sandilands, refusing to work with him again after a falling out that happened on live radio. Legal documents appear to confirm the breakdown of their working relationship.
These letters were among documents made public by the Federal Court on Friday as part of Kyle Sandilands’ legal case against ARN Media, the company that owns KIIS FM, regarding the end of his $100 million contract.
ARN cancelled the agreement following a segment on the Kyle and Jackie O Show on February 20th, where Kyle Sandilands criticized Rebecca Henderson for being overly focused on astrology.
Upset and believing she was treated unfairly, Henderson left the studio crying. Shortly after, her $100 million contract was cancelled, but she has not taken any legal action.
On March 3rd, just under two weeks after the initial incident, Sandilands received a letter from ARN claiming he had made hurtful and demeaning remarks to Henderson. The letter specifically accused him of attacking her character, how hard she worked, and her performance at her job.
The letter explained that everyone at the radio station was discussing her mistakes, leading her to believe her work and behavior were being widely criticized.
ARN stated that Sandilands’ remarks were serious and demonstrated clear animosity towards Henderson, intending to upset and cause her distress.
As a long-time fan, I was shocked to hear that Kyle Sandilands was accused of hurting the company. Apparently, the issue stemmed from Henderson deciding she would never work alongside him again, and that was seen as a direct result of his actions.
Days after the blow up, Henderson released a statement saying she ‘did not quit or resign’.
Sandilands was given two weeks to fix the problem or his contract would be cancelled. However, ARN didn’t offer any suggestions on how to resolve it, either in the first letter or any follow-up correspondence.
He was told he couldn’t discuss the situation publicly, criticize anyone at ARN, or retaliate against those who had complained about his behavior, or he would lose his job.
On March 10th, Sandilands’ lawyer, Kevin Lynch, stated that the broadcaster knew Sandilands was known for his strong personality and distinctive on-air presence, and they were prepared to offer him a $100 million contract because of it.
Mr. Lynch also noted that the broadcaster had a 30-second window to edit out any negative comments before they were broadcast, but they decided not to remove what Sandilands said about Henderson.
He said ARN created a ‘Catch-22’ when Sandilands was not given a way of resolving the situation.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following this case closely, and the court just released a sworn statement from Mr. Lynch. In it, he details exactly what Sandilands and Henderson each do on the air, and how long they’ve been working together – it really paints a picture of their professional history.
According to Mr. Lynch, Sandilands is a bold and confrontational figure who intentionally shocks and often says things that upset people. In contrast, Henderson comes across as more empathetic and understanding.
As a longtime listener, I can definitely say Kyle Sandilands is one of the biggest names in Australian radio – everyone knows who he is! That’s what Mr. Lynch pointed out, and I completely agree.
He’s been a familiar voice on Australian commercial radio for over 25 years, starting at 2Day FM in 1999.
Since January 2004, Sandilands has been a co-host on The Kyle and Jackie O Show, which began on 2Day FM and later moved to KIIS FM after ten years.
Mr. Lynch stated that the program is consistently the most popular FM breakfast show in Sydney.
The show is fast-paced and often sparks debate. It features content that’s deliberately cheeky and designed to get a reaction, including jokes that are sometimes considered rude, bawdy, or suggestive.
Mr Lynch said The Kyle and Jackie O Show was ‘occasionally controversial’.
The playful back-and-forth and underlying tension between Sandilands and Henderson are key elements of the show, according to the writer.
Sandilands usually plays the part of a bold and confrontational character who intentionally shocks and sometimes offends, while Henderson typically acts as a calming influence, offering a warmer and more empathetic presence.
The characters played by Mr. Sandilands and Ms. Henderson are intentionally over-the-top versions of their real-life personalities.
Mr Lynch set out the alleged harm done to Sandilands by the termination of his contract.
Sandilands’s job and income relied heavily on staying connected with his listeners every single day, as he explained.
He explained that each day Mr. Sandilands is off the air, his loyal listeners are likely to tune into other stations and get used to those programs, weakening their connection with him.
According to Mr. Lynch, Sandilands’s success as a brand is completely tied to his radio show, how many people listen, and how much interaction he has with his audience.
He explained that the longer Mr. Sandilands remains off the program, the worse the damage becomes, and the harder it will be to regain viewers.
Radio listeners are easily lost. Once they stop tuning in, they may not come back at all, or may not return in the same numbers when the station is back on the air.
Mr. Lynch stated that the drop in listeners was largely permanent, and the resulting harm was likely impossible to measure accurately.
Among the orders Sandilands seeks is for his reinstatement.
Mr. Lynch wrote that Mr. Sandilands is happy to work with a co-host, or specifically with Ms. Henderson if she’s interested.
He had successfully presented the program before, even shortly after February 20, 2026, and always without Ms. Henderson or any problems.
‘ARN has not considered or attempted to allow either such course.’
Sandilands appeared at the Federal Court on Friday for a directions hearing.
He claims his contract was wrongly terminated because he didn’t do anything seriously wrong, and that the company’s decision violated Australian consumer protection laws.
The matter will return to court on April 24.
