Jackie ‘O’ Henderson shocks as she reveals she knows ‘nothing’ about cricket: ‘How many balls do they get?’

Jackie 'O' Henderson shocks as she reveals she knows 'nothing' about cricket: 'How many balls do they get?'

Jackie ‘O’ Henderson has surprised her followers by disclosing that she is completely unfamiliar with one of Australia’s most beloved sports.

49-year-old radio host gave a sneak peek into the upcoming episode of Her Best Life Podcast, co-hosted with friend Gemma O’Neill. In this episode, they delve into the topic of the game they are discussing.

Jackie mentioned that following the recording session, she planned to attend a cricket match, as it would be her initial experience with the sport.

She admitted that she knows absolutely nothing about it. Gemma then wondered, “How many chances does one have?

In a surprised tone, Jackie asked, “Right! How many balls do each player have?” and swiftly checked the answer on her phone.

Later, she chuckled upon finding out that there were two batsmen playing simultaneously, trying to figure out what an ‘over’ refers to in cricket.

She inquired, “What do you mean by an inning?” followed by a hearty laugh and playfully stating that discussing cricket with enthusiasts might prove too challenging for her.

After Jackie confessed that she had previously felt embarrassment and contempt towards herself, it was only later when she openly spoke about her battles with substance abuse (drugs and alcohol) that this occurred.

She detailed her battle with addiction and secret rehab stint in her biography, The Whole Truth.

She confided to the Daily Telegraph that she had been suppressing much of her true self, drifting aimlessly through life without contemplating questions about identity and personal values. That individual led a superficial existence, she admitted.

She went on, “I wasn’t quite sure what it truly meant to love oneself – was that simply complimenting oneself in front of a mirror?

In my commitment to transparency and openness, I shared with my 14-year-old daughter, Kitty, the challenging journey I’ve been through in overcoming my addiction.

She mentioned that we maintain an open and honest conversation, coupled with a strong sense of trust. However, she also emphasized the importance of safeguarding this person. Yet, she doesn’t wish to overprotect her in any way.

Jackie added that ‘other mums’ at Kitty’s school have supported her and reached out to her.

Jackie commented, “There haven’t been any issues with it at the playground, and I found that part particularly nice – truly charming.

Recently, the radio personality disclosed the distinct clue that hinted at her hidden struggle with substance abuse involving drugs and alcohol.

Jackie revealed that her addiction took a turn for the worse after her marriage to UK photographer Lee Henderson ended in 2018, and it worsened even more during the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the peak of her addiction, Jackie consumed approximately 10 to 12 Stilnox/Zolpidem sleeping tablets and 24 Panadeine Forte pills daily, often accompanied by alcohol. Medical professionals caution that such a combination can be extremely hazardous.

Instead, she hid her struggle with addiction from her close ones, claiming she was dealing with prolonged COVID-19 symptoms when she took a lengthy leave from work in November 2022 and sought treatment at The Betty Ford Clinic in California.

In conversation with the Sydney Morning Herald, she shared that her friends started observing her episodes of memory loss and frequently prompted her: ‘Jackie, don’t you recall we discussed that yesterday?’

Instead, she started jotting down her live phone chats on Post-it Notes for future reference, as a means to hide her hardships by subtly hinting at their previous discussions.

Brittany Woodford, Jackie’s personal assistant, started noticing discarded medication packaging and found herself torn between ensuring Jackie’s health and her responsibilities as an employee.

Brittany, aged 35, put it this way: ‘It was incredibly challenging to watch someone I care about endure pain.’ She added, ‘She’s both a dear sibling-like figure and my superior at work.’

Instead of directly starting to write encouraging notes for Jackie, she eventually chose to plant soft messages in various places for Jackie to discover, hoping they would prompt her to seek assistance. However, these attempts didn’t bear fruit during that specific period.

In the meantime, it was Gemma O’Neill, Jackie’s closest companion, who ultimately convinced her to seek treatment in a rehabilitation center. Gemma mentioned that Jackie began withdrawing socially.

She shared with the Sydney Morning Heralda suspicion she had, for a moment, that she might have agoraphobia, which is a fear of open spaces or leaving one’s safe environment.

To be truthful, that’s exactly where I was heading my thoughts, as the actuality was dramatically different from any guess I could have made.

Despite not realizing it herself, Julie Last, Jackie’s mother, had worries about her excessive drinking, as she often found Jackie becoming defensive and shouting when the subject was brought up.

Ultimately, Jackie shared her hardships with her dearest friend, Gemma. This revelation prompted a clandestine trip from Australia, where they headed for the Betty Ford Clinic situated in California.

Jackie mentioned that Betty Ford advised her not to alter anything regarding her medication intake prior to departing, as it might be risky. As a result, Jackie continued to take her pills on the day she traveled to the United States.
