Jackie ‘O’ Henderson reveals the sad truth behind what started her painkiller addiction – and why most women will understand

Jackie O’ Henderson recently shared the heartbreaking story behind her struggle with painkiller dependency, which led her to seek treatment at a rehab facility in 2022.

The popular radio host, aged 50, engaged in a conversation with Dr. Sam Hay from KIIS FM regarding the essence of addiction. She shared with Kyle & Jackie O’s audience that she started using painkillers as a means to alleviate a common issue faced by numerous women.

Jackie explained, ‘I became dependent on Endone as it had been prescribed to me due to the genuine pain I was feeling from my endometriosis, which required monthly hospital visits.’

In simpler terms, Endometriosis refers to a distressing health issue that impacts numerous women. This condition occurs when tissues akin to the lining of the uterus grow elsewhere within the body, which can lead to pain (particularly in the abdomen), exhaustion, and challenges with fertility.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to share my personal experience with managing pain. I was once faced with an agonizing condition that required a potent analgesic – in my case, Endone, which is another name for Oxycodone. Initially, it provided relief, but over time, I found myself becoming reliant on it.

She explained that things spiraled beyond her control, leading to a hospital visit where she received morphine for relief. Subsequently, they prescribed Endone to help manage her condition on an ongoing basis.

The drug they gave me is highly addictive. They warned me to be very cautious about it, and I can confirm it’s indeed extremely addictive.

After swallowing those medications, I had a moment where I thought, “I’ll get through this okay.” However, it struck me later that I wasn’t truly alright due to their highly addictive nature.

In October, Jackie confided about her struggle with addiction during an emotional discussion with her fellow host Kyle Sandilands on their KIIS FM radio program.

Jackie admitted that during the peak of her addiction, she was taking as many as 12 Stilnox sleeping pills and 24 Panadeine Forte tablets every day, frequently accompanied by alcohol.

In November 2022, the star of KIIS FM confessed on The Kyle and Jackie O Show that she had covertly sought treatment at the Betty Ford Clinic to address her struggles with substance abuse involving drugs and alcohol.

It’s clear that Jackie confessed she had been counseled against decreasing her medication consumption prior to her visit to the clinic. This implies that she was still taking the substances when she departed for the United States.

In 2022, when Jackie temporarily left the show, Kyle shared with listeners that Jackie was choosing to prioritize her health since she had fallen ill with COVID-19.

Meanwhile, unbeknownst to many, the cherished radio broadcaster was struggling privately with an addiction that had spun wildly astray.

The seasoned speaker expressed her desire to openly discuss her struggle with addiction to help diminish the perception of shame associated with substance dependency, aiming instead to make it a more accepted part of society.

The presenter bravely apologised to listeners for not revealing her health struggles earlier.

Later on, she openly expressed gratitude towards her dearest friend, Gemma O’Neill, for making her realize there was an issue at hand and arranging for her admission to The Betty Ford Clinic in California.
