Jackie Chan Urges Studios to Speed Up Production on Rush Hour 4!
Jackie Chan recently provides an optimistic update on the potential release of Rush Hour 4. Contrary to his denial about the film in 2019, he revealed that discussions for the project are currently underway in 2022. The original Rush Hour movie from 1998, directed by Brett Ratner, featured Chan and Chris Tucker as Hong Kong Detective Inspector Lee and LAPD Detective James Carter respectively. Since then, Ratner has directed the sequels in the series but hasn’t helmed a film since 2014.
During an interaction with Liam Crowley at the premiere of Karate Kids: Legends, action star Jackie Chan expressed eagerness about returning to Rush Hour 4. He also mentioned other films he’s interested in working on, indicating that the script for Rush Hour 4 is still being worked on. However, he admitted his uncertainty about specific details, but expressed hope that progress continues swiftly. Here are his remarks:
Jackie Chan: I’m not sure about that. You might want to consult with the director, the studio, or the writer. Time is running out! If we don’t hurry up, Chris Tucker and I could end up as old men filming another Rush Hour movie.
ScreenRant: You want to do it, though?
Jackie Chan: Absolutely! I’d love to make more movies like Shanghai Noon, Shanghai Knight, and potentially Shanghai Dawn. The storylines are ongoing for me, and there’s even talk of a Rush Hour 4.
What Jackie Chan’s Comment Means For Rush Hour 4
Rush Hour 4 Is Still In Development
To date, information about the project has been limited. Ratner left Hollywood back in 2018 following accusations of sexual harassment and misconduct by several actors. At this point, it’s undetermined who will direct the upcoming film; however, it seems that Chan and Tucker may be reprising their roles as the duo in Rush Hour 4, which promises a fresh storyline for a new mission.
Previously, Tucker has shown his desire to resume his character in the upcoming “Rush Hour” film. If all goes well with the script and the studio, it’s possible that production could start quickly. However, his statements also suggest a degree of doubt regarding the project, as its success depends on the studios and writers. It’s been reported that Lionsgate may have been involved in producing “Rush Hour 4,” with Ratner potentially returning as director; however, these details are yet to be confirmed.
Our Take On Jackie Chan’s Rush Hour 4 Update
There’s Still A Lot Unknown About Rush Hour 4
Chan and Tucker continue to be a beloved pairing, and while they’ve already delivered three films packed with action and humor, there’s definitely potential for another Rush Hour installment. Given that certain elements of the 1998 original might seem dated now, and with so many industry shifts since then, a new movie could be quite intriguing. However, considering Brett Ratner hasn’t been active in Hollywood since his 2014 film, Hercules, and the allegations against him, it seems unlikely that he will direct the potential sequel.
The upcoming movie Rush Hour 4 seems to have its share of hurdles, and even though I’m eager for Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker to reunite on screen again, it does seem like a venture that involves some risk. Ultimately, whether the studios are genuinely committed to rebooting this iconic series and bringing the duo back together will determine if Rush Hour 4 becomes a reality or not. While there’s definitely potential for the movie, it remains uncertain whether it can be successfully revived without the original creative minds behind it.
