Jackie Chan & Ralph Macchio Team Up for ‘Karate Kid’ Double Bill
On May 30th, long-time fans can watch Daniel LaRusso, played by Ralph Macchio, and Mr. Han, portrayed by Jackie Chan, team up in the much-awaited movie “Karate Kid: Legends”. But before this exciting sequel hits the theaters, diehard fans can enjoy a special one-day screening of both Macchio’s “The Karate Kid” from 1984 and Chan’s “The Karate Kid” from 2010. These classics will also offer a sneak peek of “Legends” before its official release. However, remember to verify the details online as these special screenings are only taking place in certain cinemas on May 10th.
2025’s summer movie lineup is jam-packed with eagerly awaited films aiming to secure their place as box office giants, such as “Lilo & Stitch”, “James Gunn’s Superman”, “Mission: Impossible – The Last Stand”, “The Fantastic Four: First Footsteps”, and “Jurassic World: Resurgence”. Yet, don’t forget to check out “Karate Kid: Legends” as it aims to knock down some of these other heavyweight competitors.
Fans of Cobra Kai are eager to find out if the depiction of Daniel LaRusso in this version differs from the one seen in the Netflix series, or if the movie acknowledges the popular show at all. Additionally, viewers are thrilled to see Chan back on-screen, as he takes on the role of Mr. Han once more, 15 years after his initial portrayal of the wise sensei. However, the renowned action star is raving about another Karate Kid character instead – Li Fong, played by Ben Wang, a newcomer who is just 25 years old. In an interview with Haute Living, Chan expressed his admiration for this particular character.
It seems as though Ben has acted appropriately to deserve this recognition. In my opinion, he’s an exceptional young man, truly outstanding. He quickly grasps new concepts and remains remarkably humble and committed to his role.
Jackie Chan Will Do His Own Stunts Forever and “Never” Retire
Legends” are still pouring in online, yet it’s almost a month until this anticipated sequel graces the big screen. Patience is the key for movie enthusiasts eager to find out if Macchio and Chan’s on-screen partnership lives up to expectations. The film seems to have piqued interest, with projections suggesting it could earn anywhere from $45 million to $58 million during its opening weekend. What has fans excited is the prospect of seeing Chan execute his own awe-inspiring action sequences, a trademark of his illustrious career. In a recent interview, the legendary actor shared his enthusiasm for continuing to perform his own stunts and expressed no plans for retirement.
Performing my own stunts has been an integral part of me for 64 years now, and I don’t see that changing until retirement – which, humorously, isn’t on the horizon anytime soon! Honestly, after all these years, it’s not about physical preparation anymore; it’s more a matter of heart and instinct, like muscle memory. In the past, the only option was to simply be present and take the leap; that was it. Today, with technology, actors can accomplish anything, but there’s always an authenticity that seems absent.
In a nutshell, using technology, actors can perform increasingly breathtaking feats that were once thought impossible. However, this innovation brings a certain ambiguity about real danger and boundaries, leaving the audience somewhat desensitized to it. But please don’t misunderstand me; I’m not advocating anyone attempt such stunts as they are far too hazardous. That was a different era for me.
In 2025, the martial arts adventure movie “Karate Kid: Legends” will be released in cinemas on May 30, joining the summer box office season. If you can’t catch it in theaters for its special screenings, the original 1984 and 2010 “Karate Kid” films featuring Macchio’s crane-kicking feats are streaming on Hulu. On the other hand, the reimagined version led by Chan is now accessible on Prime Video.
