Jack Whitehall hosted this year’s BRIT Awards at the Co-op Arena, delivering the performance everyone expected from him.
The comedian, 37, started the show strong, immediately delivering his well-known jokes.
Right at the start of the show, Jack made a playful jab at this year’s Bafta Film Awards. He told the audience they had a skilled censor ready to bleep out anything controversial – and joked that it was the same person who handled the awards show last Sunday, which had faced some criticism.
John Davidson, an advocate for those with Tourette’s syndrome, vocalized outbursts while actors Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were presenting the award for best visual effects at last week’s event.
Right after Harry Styles finished performing, Jack had the crowd roaring with laughter when he joked that watching Styles on stage felt like being stuck on a washing machine for three minutes.
When Robbie Williams announced the Song of the Year, Jack playfully joked that the singer has made ‘more comebacks than he’s had hairstyles,’ getting a laugh from the large crowd.
Tonight marks the first time the BRIT Awards will be held at Manchester’s Co-op Live Arena, as the 46th annual ceremony gets underway.
After getting rid of separate awards for male and female artists, the ceremony has received criticism for not nominating enough women. This was especially noticeable in 2023, when all the nominees for Artist of the Year were men.
However, things will be different in 2026, as women and non-binary individuals are expected to make up 70% of this year’s nominees.
Lola Young and Olivia Dean are the frontrunners for the awards, each receiving five nominations. Lily Allen, making a successful return to music, is also a strong contender with three nominations for her latest album, ‘West End Girl’, which has been praised by critics.
The 40-year-old singer’s new album details the breakdown of her marriage to David Harbour, the star of ‘Stranger Things,’ and explores claims of infidelity during their relationship.
At the awards ceremony, she’s nominated for Artist of the Year alongside Young and Dean. She’s also in the running for Album of the Year and Pop Artist of the Year.
Lola, age 24, has been nominated for both Breakthrough Artist and Alternative/Rock Act. However, it’s unclear if she plans to be at the awards ceremony.
I still can’t believe it! Five BRIT nominations – seriously?! I’ve dreamed about this moment so many times, I keep expecting to wake up and realize it was all just a dream. It feels completely surreal.
I’m truly touched and so grateful for this. It’s an honor to be nominated with such talented people.
Olivia, age 26, achieved a rare feat in 2025: she became the first female artist since Adele in 2021 to simultaneously top the UK charts with both a single (“Man I Need”) and an album (“The Art Of Loving”).
She has been nominated in five categories and will be performing at the Award ceremony.
The singer said in January that it feels surreal to go from being a student in the audience at The BRIT School to performing there ten years later, and they’re really looking forward to the show in Manchester.
