Jack White unleashes two new singles ahead of Saturday Night Live

Jack White is returning to Saturday Night Live on April 4th for his sixth appearance! This time, he’ll be the musical guest while Jack Black hosts the show. This episode is shaping up to be one you definitely won’t want to miss.

Jack White is deciding which songs to perform. Will he play something from his latest album, No Name, released in 2024? Or will he choose one or both of the singles he released right before his Saturday Night Live performance on Good Friday?

Are Jack White’s new songs any good? If you already like his music, you’ll probably enjoy them. If you’re not familiar with his work, these songs could be a great place to start.

Jack White drops two new singles on Good Friday – How good are they?

“G.O.D. and the Broken Ribs”

The song starts with a sample that sounds like it could be from Harold Holmes, which might lead you to expect a mashup. However, that doesn’t detract from a strong opening – it’s still a powerful, driving rock track that any Jack White fan is sure to enjoy.

The song takes a turn after 30 seconds, signaling a return to form. The lyrics clearly draw inspiration from the story of Adam and Eve, which feels particularly appropriate for Easter. As White points out, the characters simply need to remember their purpose: they’re meant to be the progenitors of humanity, with all the complexities that entails.

This song fits right in with Jack White’s recent work. Expect bluesy rock music that’s very well-produced, and features vocals with a slightly rap-like delivery.

“Derecho Demonico”

Unlike the last song, this one is a driving, fuzzy rock track. White often takes inspiration from his favorite guitarists from the 1970s – here, a bit of MC5 – and it really enhances the music.

This guitarist skillfully uses feedback, transforming the often-annoying noise into something beautiful and captivating – a talent rare in today’s music scene. He would have been a massive star in a previous generation, and his dedicated fans are truly appreciative. While he’s not likely to switch to jazz anytime soon, he probably could create an incredible jazz album if he wanted to.

The song has a deliberately raw and unclear quality, but it’s an energetic, powerful rock track that feels really good to listen to. Will the artist perform it – or another similar song – on Saturday Night Live? Hopefully, they’ll play both!
