Jack Vidgen shares heartbreaking update from hospital bed: 'I'm not okay'

As a lifestyle expert with years of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of empathy for Jack Vidgen as he bravely shares his ongoing battle with addiction. His heartfelt post serves as a stark reminder that fame and success do not shield one from the darkest corners of life.

Jack Vidgen has shared a heartbreaking health update.

On Saturday, the 27-year-old celebrity from reality TV posted on Instagram about his stay at a recovery center, confessing that he had experienced a setback in his longstanding struggle with substance abuse.

In recent years, Jack, who’s no stranger to treatment, informed his audience that he recently experienced a five-week period of setback or lapse in his recovery.

As I share this image from my hospital bed, I must admit, I felt a bit anxious about disclosing this update with you all. But I believe openness and honesty are essential parts of our shared journey towards wellness and personal growth.

As I put pen to paper, I’m consumed by fear of judgment. Fear grips me about people’s reactions and opinions, whether it’s their direct comments or hushed conversations if we cross paths on the street. For years, I’ve been haunted by this constant dread, stemming from a struggle deep within me – my battle with addiction.

‘I just wanted to let you in a bit and let you know, I’m not OK. For years I’ve heard the saying “It’s OK not to be OK” and never really known what the f**k that means. I feel like I’m somewhat understanding it now.

He’s been battling with a five-week-long period of setback, during which he’s found it difficult to catch his breath. His battle with addiction has been the hardest challenge he’s ever faced, and he wouldn’t want anyone, not even his sworn enemy, to experience what he’s gone through.

Jack wasn’t completely certain about the specific reasons behind his recent battle with addiction, yet he had a suspicion that the passing of two dear ones might have played a role.

In his own words, he shared: ‘For the past 13 years, I had a dear friend who recently passed away. My uncle also fell ill and subsequently passed on. On top of these losses, I faced numerous other stresses. I believe in retrospect that I didn’t seek help or reach out for support as much as I truly needed to during those challenging times.’

Jack confessed to worrying how his latest stay in rehab might impact his career, but knew he needed to prioritise his health.

Jack received numerous supportive messages and uplifting words from his famous peers in response to his touching message.

Comedian Dave Hughes wrote, ‘Moment at a time mate. Breathe. It’s all noise. You got this.’

Radio titan Jackie O Henderson also shared kinds words.

She expressed, “I’m sending you a ton of love, Jack. Addictions can be incredibly strong, but they don’t have to be something we’re embarrassed about. I hope you receive healing vibes and nothing but affection and encouragement xx.

I’m genuinely impressed by your commitment to prioritizing self-care, my friend. That’s what a responsible and strong person does! (Grant Denyer)
