Jack Sparrow’s son report draws similar reaction from fans
According to industry expert Jeff Sneider, Disney’s new leadership – CEO Josh D’Amaro and president Dana Walden – are making a reboot of the Pirates of the Caribbean films a top priority. The sixth movie is potentially about Jack Sparrow’s son, and may feature Margot Robbie in a leading role. Robbie was previously considered for her own Pirates spin-off, and Oscar-nominated writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns has reportedly been in talks to write the screenplay.
Fans haven’t reacted well to Sneider’s report, voicing their disappointment with the movie’s planned direction online. Many stated they won’t watch the film unless Johnny Depp returns as Jack Sparrow.
This report follows news that Gore Verbinski, director of the original three Pirates of the Caribbean movies, won’t be returning to the series. He recently told Screenrant he feels he’s already contributed everything he can to the films, and that making another one would feel less creative and exciting. He prefers to move on to new projects.
Last year, producer Jerry Bruckheimer told Entertainment Weekly they were developing a script for a sixth Pirates of the Caribbean movie. He emphasized they would only move forward if they had a great script, admitting they hadn’t quite reached that point yet, but were getting close. Bruckheimer also mentioned that Johnny Depp would return as Jack Sparrow, but only if he was happy with how the character was written.
