Jack Russell dead at 63: Glam metal rocker who founded Great White passes away
As a lifestyle expert with a keen interest in music, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of loss upon hearing about the demise of Jack Russell, the charismatic lead singer of Great White. Having grown up in the 80s and 90s, his voice and the band’s music were an integral part of my youth, setting the rhythm for countless memories and moments of pure rock ‘n’ roll joy.
Jack Russell, the Great White founding member and lead singer, has died. He was 63.
On Friday, the band issued a statement confirming that Russell had passed away the previous day, surrounded by his loved ones – his wife Heather Ann and son Matthew Hucko.
Russell’s representative informed TMZ that the reason for his death was a combination of Lewy Body Dementia and Multiple System Atrophy, which affected his mobility.
Previously, Russell shared his diagnosis a month ago, as his health situation led him to step down from touring.
The band expressed their heartfelt sympathies to Jack Russell’s family, stating that they find solace in the knowledge that his remarkable voice shall endure eternally.

In an unprecedented manner, he adored both his fans and his sons deeply, much like his passion for rock music itself.
Speaking of someone who shared this incredible journey with us, through both the good times and the challenging ones, it’s hard not to acknowledge their goodness.
“Rather than trying to find the right words, we like to let the melody take its course. The beautiful memories of all those years spent together will remain deeply engraved within us,” they went on.
‘It was a privilege and joy to share the stage with him – many shows, many miles, and maximum rock.
In the recording studio, Jack truly shone. He consistently arrived prepared and worked diligently. Not only that, but he pushed himself to deliver top-notch performances for each track, often working late into the night to achieve perfection.
“In every performance, he demonstrated unmatched quality. His live shows were consistently superior to anything else out there. Farewell and rest in peace to one of rock music’s greatest advocates,” the band commented.
1960 saw the birth of Russell on December 5th, in Montebello, California. In the year 1977, he teamed up with Mark Kendall to form a band initially known as Dante Fox. Later, they changed the band’s name to Great White.
From 1996 onwards, Russell gained notoriety due to the band’s hits such as ‘Rock Me’ (released in 1987), ‘Once Bitten, Twice Shy’ (1989), and ‘The Angel Song’ (also 1989).
Following his time as a solo artist, where he produced albums like “Shelter Me” in 1996 and “For You” in 2002, he later reconnected with the original band in 2002 and changed its name to Jack Russell’s Great White.
In February 2003, a fire broke out at The Station nightclub in Rhode Island due to the band’s use of pyrotechnics, claiming the lives of 100 individuals, among them was the band’s guitarist, Ty Longley.
That particular summer, the band embarked on a charity tour which continued until 2005. However, Russell had to seek treatment in a rehabilitation center after experiencing a setback with his alcohol and cocaine addiction.
