Jack Quad’s film, Novocaine, is now gaining popularity on streaming services. It was originally released in cinemas in 2025 and, while it had a good start, it didn’t perform well overall.
According to FlixPatrol, the movie Novocaine has reached the Top 10 on Paramount+, landing at number 8 as of February 1, 2026. It’s also a hit internationally, currently ranking at number 3 in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. The film centers around an average man with the unusual ability to feel no pain.
When Nathan’s girlfriend is kidnapped, he discovers a surprising ability: he doesn’t feel pain. He uses this to his advantage, pushing himself to the limit to rescue her. The film Novocaine features Amber Midthunder and Colman Domingo, alongside Ray Nicholson (known from Smile 2), Jacob Batalon (Spider-Man: Homecoming), Betty Gabriel (Get Out), and Matt Walsh (Bad Santa).
The movie Novocaine came out in US theaters on March 14, 2025, and did reasonably well, earning over $32 million globally on an $18 million production budget. It was released the same week as Opus, starring Cate Blanchett (from A24), and The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie.
The movie Novocaine opened strong, earning $8.8 million and becoming the number one film that weekend. However, it ended up having the lowest overall box office numbers of any weekend in 2025. With few other popular movies attracting audiences, Novocaine quickly fell out of the top ten films after just four weeks.
Despite this, viewers who saw the film generally loved it. It’s currently “Certified Fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes with an 81% approval rating based on over 220 critic reviews. Even more impressively, audiences gave it an 84% rating from over 1,000 reviews, with many calling it exactly the fun, action-packed movie they were hoping for.
As a movie fan, I’ve been reading the reviews, and it seems like everyone’s really praising the performances from both Josh Quaid and Amber Midthunder – they’re definitely the highlights. What’s also interesting is how the movie handles its central idea – Quaid’s character not being able to feel pain. Reviewers seem to think it’s a really fresh take, and Rotten Tomatoes put it perfectly: the film finds increasingly inventive ways to explore that concept, and it’s anything but a drag to watch. It sounds like a really clever and engaging film!

Now that Novocaine is popular on streaming services, Dennis Quaid’s son is seeing his acting career take off. After the movie opened at number one in theaters last year, Dennis Quaid said his son is just beginning and that audiences haven’t seen the best of him yet.
Jack Quaid appeared in three more films in 2025, including the surprisingly popular sci-fi thriller Companion directed by Zach Cregger, the crime thriller Neighborhood Watch, and the action comedy Heads of State starring John Cena. He’ll also be back as Hughie in , which will debut on April 8th.
