The film Sinners received more Oscar nominations than any other movie this year. However, it was surprisingly overlooked in one key category.
The nominations for the 2026 Oscars were announced on January 22nd, and the film Sinners received an impressive 16 nominations. This is a new record, making it the most nominated film in a single year in the history of the Academy Awards.
I was really blown away by how many nominations the 2025 horror movie received – it was incredible! Honestly, I was a little surprised that one particular actor didn’t get recognized, though. They really stood out to me.
Jack O’Connell Deserved To Be Nominated In The Academy Awards’ Best Supporting Actor Category For Sinners
Delroy Lindo received an Oscar nomination for his supporting role in Sinners, and it’s well-deserved. However, many feel Jack O’Connell also delivered a strong performance in the film and should have been nominated as well. With Sinners receiving so much awards attention, O’Connell’s performance feels like an overlooked highlight.
A standout moment in Sinners is the captivating dance sequence where the vampires of the hive move to “Rocky Road to Dublin,” led by O’Connell. Jack O’Connell’s performance is the driving force behind the scene, brilliantly showing how his character has transformed into the very monster his community once suffered from.
Throughout the film, Jack O’Connell brilliantly portrays the complex nature of his character – a mix of brutality, vulnerability, and isolation. He manages to be intimidating while also making it understandable why people are drawn to him. In fact, the movie Sinners wouldn’t have been the same without his captivating performance.
I was so bummed to see that even though Sinners got a lot of Academy recognition, Jack O’Connell didn’t get nominated. It felt like a real oversight, honestly!
After 2026’s Snub, 2027 Might Be O’Connell’s Year At The Oscars
Jack O’Connell started his career with smaller, independent films and TV series. Now, he’s landing bigger roles in well-known franchises and received a lot of praise for his work in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. With horror films finally being recognized by the Academy Awards, the new 28 Years Later movie is likely to receive several nominations at the 2027 Oscars.
I’ve been reading a lot about Jack O’Connell’s work in this new zombie film, and honestly, everyone’s saying he’s the reason it’s so scary. It’s got people thinking he could finally get an Oscar nomination – maybe in 2027, if the buzz keeps up!
It’s still too early to know exactly what the future holds for this actor, but his consistently strong performances are setting him up for success. He was previously nominated for Sinners, and now it seems even more likely he’ll be a serious awards contender in the years to come.
