It’s possible that the forthcoming Netflix adaptation of “Pride and Prejudice” has potentially cast the Scottish actor, Jack Lowden, as Mr. Darcy. (Lowden is known for his role in “Slow Horses.”)
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Joe Wright’s movie adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel, and according to Variety, discussions are underway for Lowden to take on the role of Darcy in a series penned by Dolly Alderton, renowned author of “Everything I Know About Love.” As a devoted fan, it’s exciting to imagine what fresh perspectives these talented individuals will bring to this beloved story.
Netflix declined to comment on the rumour and the series is yet to receive a release date.
The “Pride and Prejudice” series signifies Netflix’s most recent interpretation of Jane Austen’s work, following the contemporary rendition titled “Persuasion“, which featured Dakota Johnson, known for her role in “Fifty Shades of Grey”, as the main character, and premiered in 2022.
If Lowden does take on the iconic role, he’ll be in some very good company.
Previously, Matthew Macfadyen, known for his role in “Succession,” portrayed Darcy alongside Keira Knightley in the Academy Award-nominated “Pride & Prejudice” directed by Wright.
In this film, Keira Knightley received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. This movie also featured Rosamund Pike, Carey Mulligan, and Kelly Reilly. Notably, Brenda Blethyn from “Vera” played Mrs. Bennet, while the late Donald Sutherland portrayed Mr. Bennet in this production.
Pride and Prejudice also enjoyed a beloved six-part TV adaptation for the BBC.

However, it wasn’t just Austen’s novel that underwent adaptations; it has also sparked a series of humorous reinterpretations within its fictional realms.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but mention one intriguing title that blends my love for games with literature: “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies,” a horror-comedy gem. This unique production is based on the creative work of Seth Grahame-Smith and features Lily James as Elizabeth and Sam Riley as Darcy in the lead roles.
