As a long-time fan and follower of Tenacious D, I was deeply disappointed to hear about Jack Black’s decision to cancel the remaining shows of their tour due to Kyle Gass’ controversial statement. The duo has brought joy and laughter to my life for many years with their satirical rock-comedy style.
As a movie critic, I’d put it this way: I was looking forward to catching Jack Black and Tenacious D on their tour, but unfortunately, Jack has decided to call off the remaining shows following an inflammatory remark from his bandmate Kyle Gass. The statement, concerning the attempted assassination of a former president, has sparked controversy and left Jack with no other option but to cancel.
Gass, one half of the satirical rock-comedy duo, caused controversy during his 64th birthday celebration on a Sydney Sunday show. When asked what he wished for, he reportedly responded with “Hope you don’t miss Trump at the next event,” alluding to the previous day’s shooting incident at a campaign rally in Butler, PA.
The Grammy-winning band, Tenacious D, announced the postponement of their concert in Newcastle, Australia, on Tuesday due to recent controversy. Gaining a devoted fanbase in the late 1990s through a series of short films shown after “Mr. Show” episodes, they had planned to perform additional shows in Australia and New Zealand this month before continuing their tour in the US with several shows in October.
Black said Tuesday that he was “blindsided” by what Gass said onstage Sunday.
The “School of Rock” and “Super Mario Bros. Movie” actor made it clear in an Instagram post that he does not support hate speech or instigate political violence under any circumstances.
After giving it a lot of thought, he announced that he wouldn’t be able to carry on with the Tenacious D tour any longer, and all upcoming creative projects had been put on hold.
Black also said he was “grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.”

On Taylor’s criticizing the Trumps fiercely, he issued an apology for his statement on Tuesday as well.
He posted on Instagram around an hour later, regretting the off-the-cusp remark he made during last Sunday’s performance in Sydney. It was unsuitable, risky, and a major blunder.
As someone who has had the unfortunate experience of making a grave mistake in the past, I can wholeheartedly say that I abhor violence under any circumstances and towards anyone. The incident that transpired was a source of immense sadness for me, and I deeply regret my lapse in judgement. To those whom I have disappointed, I extend my sincere apologies and profound remorse for the distress I’ve caused.

Gass was let go by Greene Talent, his talent agency, following the controversy, Nexstar affiliates announced on Tuesday. Meanwhile, X’s owner Elon Musk labeled Gass’ comment as wicked, and Australian legislator Ralph Babet suggested expelling the members of Tenacious D, according to the BBC report.
At a high-profile fundraising event in Los Angeles last month, Black, a strong backer of President Biden, publicly endorsed him for another term. Amid growing concerns over Biden’s debate performance on June 27, there have been increasing demands for him to withdraw from the presidential race, not just among politicians but also in Hollywood circles.
According to a recent article in The Times, published on Tuesday, the pressure on President Biden over the shooting incident has lessened somewhat. In response to the assassination attempt, Biden expressed his disapproval and emphasized the need for all to condemn political violence. Additionally, he has scaled back his criticisms of former President Trump.
As a devoted cinema-goer, I’d rephrase that statement as follows: During an interview with Lester Holt of NBC on Monday, I, Biden, admitted making a mistake during a private call with donors. I expressed regret for using the phrase “it’s time to put Trump in the bull’s-eye,” which I now understand could be perceived as aggressive or confrontational. Instead, I meant to emphasize the importance of focusing on Trump’s potential threats to our democracy. Furthermore, I believe my opponent has at times engaged in rhetoric that is even more harmful and divisive than what I have been accused of.
