Jack Black and Paul Rudd’s ’90s cult reboot adds White Lotus star

In a fresh update, the remake of the ’90s fan favorite “Anaconda” is bringing in some new faces to its cast. Joining the already confirmed actors, Paul Rudd, Jack Black, and Daniela Melchior, we now have Steve Zahn from the acclaimed series “The White Lotus.

In August, it was revealed that there would be a modern take on the 1997 thriller film, focusing on a National Geographic team and a dangerous hunter in pursuit of the planet’s largest and most venomous serpent.

Following the official launch of the project, Rudd and Black are now set to work alongside a few new faces. According to The Hollywood Reporter, actors Pell Jhn (Zahn), Thandiwe Newton, Selton Mello, and Ione Skye have signed on to appear in the film with them.

The upcoming reboot is claimed to offer a humorous take on an old story, where a band of friends experiencing midlife dilemmas decide to recreate their beloved movie from childhood. Following their journey into the rainforest, they unexpectedly find themselves battling for survival against catastrophic weather events, massive serpents, and ruthless criminals.

Rudd and Black are said to portray characters from a declining era of Hollywood, while Zahn, known for his role as Mark Mossbacher in the first season of “The White Lotus,” and Newton will depict their childhood companions. Meanwhile, Mello is set to act as an animal handler, and Skye will take on the role of Black’s character’s wife.

The project is being led by Tom Gormican (known for “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent”), who is collaborating with Kevin Etten on the script. At present, filming is taking place in Australia, and it’s tentatively scheduled to be released on December 25th.

The initial movie, helmed by Luis Llosa, featured Jon Voight, Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Owen Wilson, Eric Stoltz, and Jonathan Hyde in its main cast. This horror-thriller gained cult status following its impressive earnings of over $130 million at the box office.

The movie was continued by four sequels in 2004, 2008, 2009, and one more titled “Lake Placid vs Anaconda” that brought the franchise together with another well-known horror series featuring creatures.

Anaconda is scheduled to be released on December 25.
