J. D. Souther dead at 78: Singer-songwriter penned tracks for Linda Ronstadt and the Eagles

Singer-songwriter J.D. Souther has died at the age of 78.
As a devoted devotee, I can’t help but share the heartbreaking news that Glen Frey, the legendary Detroit-born musician whose country-rock compositions graced the airwaves through iconic acts like the Eagles and Linda Ronstadt, has left us. The Eagles’ representative confirmed his passing at his home in New Mexico, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.
Souther’s cause and date of death was not immediately clear, according to the outlet.
Originally scheduled to kick off a tour in Phoenix next week was Glenn Frey, who wrote hits like “New Kid in Town” (1976) and “Heartache Tonight” (1979), songs that were Eagles classics, as well as the 1974 track “Faithless Love” for Linda Ronstadt.
Souther, known for his solo success with “You’re Only Lonely” in 1979, has also been a songwriter for various popular artists including the Dixie Chicks, James Taylor, Bonnie Raitt, and George Strait.
Besides acting, Souther was also employed in the field of acting, gracing screens on series like Nashville and Thirtysomething, and starring in films including Postcards From the Edge and My Girl 2.
