‘I’ve Never Had That’: Todd Chrisley Reveals One Of The Great Things About His Prison Stint

Todd Chrisley, together with his wife Julie, have been quite forthcoming since they were both granted clemency for financial crimes. In recent conversations, these ex-stars of Chrisley Knows Best have been candidly discussing various aspects of their journeys over the past few years, as well as their reunion with family members. As for Todd, he’s been straightforward about his dissatisfaction with his prison stint. However, he recently disclosed one positive aspect that emerged from being incarcerated.

As a movie buff putting it in my own words, here’s how I’d rephrase that:

“In 2023, after being convicted for bank fraud, tax evasion, and more back in 2022, I, Todd Chrisley, reported to the Federal Prison Camp in Pensacola, Florida. Since my arrival, I’ve had some issues with the staff here, feeling that I’ve been treated unfairly in many instances. Yet, during my time here, I’ve also forged meaningful relationships with a number of fellow inmates, experiences that I shared with my daughter Julie on her podcast Unlocked, which she co-hosts with Savannah.

In essence, I found a unique bond among these men, for previously, I hadn’t experienced such close fellowship. Initially, I wasn’t particularly drawn to the company of men. However, I came to realize that this was an extraordinary experience, as I had the privilege of listening to mature men openly express their emotions, sharing tales of hardship and pain. Their stories often included accounts of physical or emotional abuse, being separated from their parents, forced labor instead of education, and various other struggles such as imprisonment, infidelity in their relationships, divorce, or tragic loss like the death of a child in a car accident.

Immediately following Todd and Julie Chrisley’s incarceration, Lindsie Chrisley stated that they were warmly received in prison. These recent comments from Todd suggest that his account might be accurate, indicating he was accepted by his fellow inmates. This also supports the idea that Todd considered his imprisonment beneficial, as he saw himself as a tool for positive change among the inmate population, potentially guided by divine intervention.

Todd Chrisley, often referred to as the family patriarch, allegedly aimed to carry out similar duties by working within the prison’s chapel. His role, rooted in religion, turned into a significant point of debate towards the end of 2024, with rumors surfacing that Chrisley had been terminated from this position. Lately, he has openly discussed his experience at the chapel and rebuked a social media user whom he claims fabricated stories about him not holding that role.

While serving time in prison, Todd Chrisley voiced concerns about the living conditions, both for himself and fellow inmates. He stated that the food was substandard and accused someone of taking photos of him while he slept, which he believed were then used for extortion. Despite these hardships, Chrisley acknowledges valuable relationships formed during his incarceration. Therefore, he credits the prison system for fostering those connections.

It struck me that the Bureau of Prisons, in my view, effectively implements one key aspect – it serves as an extraordinary leveler in my experience, since everyone is treated equally. If society could embrace this idea of unity – that we are all essentially the same – the world would undoubtedly be improved.

After serving time in prison, the Chrisleys appear to have changed their perspective on the penal system and are now focusing their efforts towards advocating for prison reform. Alice Marie Johnson, who was instrumental in securing their pardons, has cautioned them to proceed with caution as they adapt back to life outside prison. Despite this advice, Todd and Julie Chrisley aren’t idle; they’re actively pursuing a return to reality TV and are rumored to be negotiating for a high-value contract.

Moving forward from my stint in prison, it appears Todd Chrisley won’t easily forget his experience there, as he refers to his fellow inmates as “brothers.” Over time, we shall observe whether he continues to engage in prison advocacy and make a difference.
