Fans are eagerly anticipating the new ITV spy thriller, Secret Service. We’re offering an exclusive peek behind the scenes at the show’s filming, featuring stars Gemma Arterton (known for Quantum of Solace), Mark Stanley (Happy Valley, Adolescence), and Avi Nash (The Walking Dead).
The new series, Secret Service, is a thrilling espionage drama based on a tense novel by ITV News anchor Tom Bradby.
I’m really excited about this new show! Gemma Arterton is playing Kate Henderson, a woman who seems like your average mom and civil servant – married with two teenagers. But what most people don’t realize is she’s actually a top MI6 officer in charge of the Russia Desk. It sounds like she’s leading a seriously double life!

The story follows Kate as shocking new evidence launches her into a frantic search for the truth. She must navigate the treacherous world of spying all while struggling to keep her family safe and preserve her good name.
I’m really excited about this project! It’s being directed by James Marsh, who won an Oscar, and the cast is incredible. We’ve got Rafe Spall, Alex Kingston, Roger Allam, Amaka Okafor, and Khalid Abdalla alongside the previously announced stars. Marsh himself said it’s a ‘brilliant ensemble’ and that they’re going to do a fantastic job bringing these already gripping scripts to life – I can’t wait to see it!
Farren Blackburn, known for directing Gangs of London, will direct several episodes later in the series. The show was co-written by Tom Bradby and Jemma Kennedy.

The show Secret Service released a short preview in March, giving viewers a glimpse of the actors performing action scenes.
Gemma Arterton, the star of Secret Service, hopes the film will leave audiences feeling unsettled and questioning whether the events depicted could actually happen.
We aim for our shows to feel current and relatable, and to spark discussion and offer fresh perspectives. We want viewers to be actively engaged, challenged to think critically, and enjoy the rewarding experience of piecing things together themselves, rather than having everything explained to them.
James Marsh, when asked what he hopes viewers think of Secret Service, said he wants to create a series that’s engaging enough to hold people’s attention over all five episodes, adding that the story itself is quite compelling.
Once the story begins, you’ll find plenty of surprises and unexpected twists. The goal is to create something that keeps viewers engaged and wanting more, and it’s full of interesting ideas, too.
Well if this sounds like the perfect watch for you, you won’t have long to wait…
Secret Service premieres on Monday 27 April at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
