ITV’s long-standing and beloved crime drama Grantchester confirms it’s ending after 11 years

The classic and cherished detective series on ITV known as “Grantchester” is set to end after completing its 11th season.

Since 2014, this TV series has been a consistent presence on our screens, featuring James Norton, Tom Brittney, and Rishi Nair as the successive reverends who partner with detective inspector Geordie Keating, portrayed by Robson Green.

The trip concludes as ITV has verified that the eleventh season, freshly announced, marks the series finale. Thus, after a ten-year run, tales from the village named in the title will conclude.

What to Read Next

In the scorching days of summer ’63, the concluding episodes unfold. Here, Nair’s character Alphy Kotteram will gradually uncover pieces of his past. The reverend starts to doubt his own convictions and self-question, as he contemplates an alternate life he might have lived.

DI Keating appears to be filled with warmth and contentment during this peaceful phase in his life. However, everything shifts for him when the Chief Superintendent extends an intriguing invitation, one which might signal the dissolution of his alliance with Kotteram.

Besides Nair and Green, other notable cast members are coming back as well. These include Al Weaver, Tessa Peake-Jones, Kacey Ainsworth, Oliver Dimsdale, Nick Brimble, Bradley Hall, and Melissa Johns, each ready to reappear in their original roles.

In season 11, characters will ponder their chosen paths, leading to significant choices being made. The storyline hints at major transformations happening within the community. This upcoming season delves into themes of family, forgiveness, self-discovery, and spirituality.

Right from the start, it’s been a privilege for me to work alongside an exceptional group of skilled, enthusiastic, and committed people, whom I consider not just colleagues but family, according to Green.

The connections we’ve built transcend the confines of the camera, and I am certain they will last beyond the ending credits… I remain eternally thankful for the moments, friendships, and affection this adventure has bestowed upon me. May I have succeeded in making you feel proud.

Nair, who became a part of the series during its ninth season, expressed: “It’s been an immense privilege to enter the realm of Grantchester and contribute to a show that carries so much warmth. As we embark on the making of this concluding segment, I do so with a heart full of joy and boundless appreciation.

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but draw parallels between my favorite gaming worlds and the captivating universe of “Grantchester”. The mastermind behind this show, Daisy Coulam, has crafted it to be more than just a series; it’s a testament to the strength of friendship and love. Over these past 11 seasons, I’ve been privileged to witness these powerful bonds unfold both on and off the screen. What a remarkable journey it’s been!

We’ve gathered annually for more than ten years during the summer to shoot this project, and every moment has been a delight. A heartfelt thank you goes out to each and every one who contributed, whether it was a major role or a minor part – your presence has truly made an impact. I will deeply miss our time together.

The ninth season ended in February, and right now, the tenth season is being shown on American television. However, a UK release date has not been announced yet.

In other news, Tom Brittney recently landed a role in a brand new period crime drama for MGM+.

Grantchester airs in the UK on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
