ITV’s beloved and long-running detective drama marks historic milestone with huge update

The popular detective series “Midsomer Murders,” cherished by ITV viewers, has commenced filming for its record-breaking 25th season.

After showing its latest episode in November the previous year, the program took a break from production, as its creators decided to take a year off filming.

Indeed, it’s been announced that the series is now actively filming its 25th season. This upcoming season promises to unfold four intriguing, full-length mysteries, as reported by Variety.

In the upcoming season, Neil Dudgeon will once again take on the character of DCI John Barnaby. He’ll be joined by Nick Hendrix portraying DS Jamie Winter, Annette Badland playing pathologist Dr. Fleur Perkins, and Fiona Dolman as Sarah, who is Barnaby’s wife.

It’s a pleasure to be back filming Midsomer once more. Each script is filled with captivating intrigue and suspense, which I can’t wait for you all to experience,” shared Dudgeon, who has portrayed DCI Barnaby since 2011.

He went on saying: “Our authors, appearing quite ordinary, continue to devise unusual methods for the inhabitants of Midsomer to eliminate their neighbors, which is both entertaining and somewhat concerning; I collaborate with them!

Additionally, it’s wonderful that the cast and team have reunited once more. Catching up with everyone, hearing their updates, and exchanging stories is truly delightful. It feels like living in a small-town setting reminiscent of Midsomer. I hope you all will appreciate them as much when they complete their work.

The British crime drama series “Midsomer Murders” made its debut in 1997, boasting guest roles from well-known actors like Olivia Colman, Imelda Staunton, Hugh Bonneville, Henry Cavill, and Holly Willoughby throughout its run.

Only a month ago, Dudgeon shared with Radio Times that he intends to stay on the program as long as producers continue to welcome him.

As a country-loving soul, I find immense joy in this serene landscape. I can’t help but feel that one day, the curtain will fall – the moment when I’ll be gently ushered offstage and my services may no longer be needed. Yet, until that signal is given, I plan to continue showing up each day, eagerly participating in this grand production of life.

Midsomer Murders airs on ITV and streams on ITVX.
