ITV’s award-winning “immaculately plotted” drama set in Dublin confirms exciting new-season update

ITV bosses have shared an exciting update on The Dry season three.

As a devoted admirer, I’d like to share my thoughts on the captivating Irish comedy-drama that centers around Roisin Gallagher’s performance. The narrative follows me, Shiv Sheridan, after a long stint of London’s nightlife, as I embark on a fresh chapter in Dublin, aiming to forge a new life.

The program delved into Shiv’s familial bonds, focusing significantly on her mother, Bernie (played by Pom Boyd). It also touched upon Shiv’s complex romantic entanglements and her personal journey towards sobriety.

In the second season of “The Dry,” Shiv developed a new romantic connection with Alex (played by Sam Keeley), all while resisting the urge to drink and making strides towards sobriety, achieving new milestones in her recovery process.

Following the announcement earlier this year that the series would be continuing for another season on ITV and RTÉ, it’s now confirmed that shooting is currently taking place in Dublin.

It comes with a bittersweet caveat, though, as the third season of The Dry will be the last.

In this show, which was written by BAFTA-nominated playwright Nancy Harris, Gallagher will once again take on her character Shiv, while Siobhán Cullen plays Caroline, Adam John Richardson portrays Ant, Ciarán Hinds embodies Tom, Pom Boyd brings Bernie to life, Moe Dunford assumes the role of Jack, and Eoin Duffy takes on Rory. In other words, all these familiar faces are set to return!

As I cheer with my sparkling water in hand, eagerly anticipating the last sip of the witty and award-winning series “The Dry,” the Sheridan family braces for their most significant hurdle yet – a shocking family secret that threatens to disrupt everyone’s equilibrium.

The family strives diligently to create fresh existences while grappling with the deceits of their past, but harmful tendencies resurface. Eventually, it’s Shiv who begins to question whether she’s been avoiding some harsh realities. Could it be that she’s spent too long blaming her family, the wrongdoers in her relationships, and even alcohol, rather than acknowledging the possibility that… the true source of her struggles might actually be… herself?

As “The Dry” wraps up its final episodes, prepare for reopened scars, fresh revelations, and an emotional goodbye to one of TV’s most subtle and intelligently developed shows.

In an interview before the start of the third season, Nancy Harris expressed that it was a genuine pleasure to witness the diverse group of characters from the show “The Dry” being warmly accepted by viewers.

It’s been a heartwarming experience to watch the Sheridan family’s unique quirks resonate with viewers, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have shared this tale across three series, as expressed by her.

The third and concluding season delves more intensely than ever, offering an intimate exploration of Shiv and the family that we expect will be unexpectedly humorous, candidly funny, yet painfully truthful.

The Dry seasons one and two are available to stream on ITVX
