ITV has decided not to renew Coldwater after its first season. The six-episode thriller series, which premiered in September, starred Andrew Lincoln, known for his role in The Walking Dead.
The network told The Sun they are very proud of the show Coldwater and the team who created it. Although there won’t be another season, they enjoyed sharing the story.
David Ireland’s film, Coldwater, featured a strong supporting cast including Eve Myles, Indira Varma, Ewen Bremner, Samuel Bottomley, Abigail Lawrie, and Sanjeev Kohli.
The story follows John Lincoln, a man in his fifties trying to start over in the Scottish countryside after a difficult experience in London. However, his peaceful new life is disrupted when he discovers his neighbors are hiding troubling secrets.
Critics had a mixed reaction to the series. One review in iNews called it “simply dreadful,” and questioned if it was intentionally bad, asking if there was a joke viewers were missing. They seemed to wonder if the show, set in Scotland, was a deliberate parody.

According to The Independent, the main issue is a recurring lack of well-developed, believable characters. This is a common problem with modern television, which often prioritizes immediate action over character development to keep viewers engaged.
Despite some negative feedback, Collider praised the film, saying the compelling characters and unsettling atmosphere create a captivating and creepy story of murder and mayhem in a deceptively peaceful town.
I just finished watching Coldwater, and honestly, it totally gripped me from the very beginning. It’s one of those thrillers that just doesn’t let up, and by the finale, I was seriously on the edge of my seat – it left me breathless!
The thriller series has received a user rating of 6.2 out of 10 on IMDb, based on over 3,600 reviews. Many viewers seem to like it, with one calling it “exciting enough” and another saying they “thoroughly enjoyed” the show.
