ITV casts Adolescence star in new “gripping” spy thriller with stacked British cast
In a fresh, edge-of-your-seat spy thriller, ITV has tapped an actor from the series “Adolescence” to join an impressive ensemble of British talent.
The storyline of “Secret Service” revolves around the strained relations between the United Kingdom and Russia, as depicted in a novel penned by Tom Bradby, an anchor for ITV News.
Mark Stanley, presently known for his role as lawyer Paul Barlow in the popular Netflix show “Adolescence“, has recently been confirmed to join the cast, along with Gemma Arterton from “The Critic“.

In addition to the cast, we have Rafe Spall from “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” Alex Kingston known for her role in “Doctor Who,” Roger Allam famed from “Endeavour,” Amaka Okafor who starred in “Bodies,” and Khalid Abdalla, a familiar face from “The Crown.
From my perspective as an avid reader, this captivating narrative unfolds around the character of Kate Henderson, portrayed by Arterton, who seemingly leads an unassuming life, married to Stuart (Spall), a civil servant, and parenting two teenagers. However, beneath the surface tranquility, she stealthily assumes the role of the Russia Desk head at the Secret Intelligence Service.
In the course of her covert investigations, it is discovered that a prominent British politician might be acting on behalf of Russia. This revelation thrusts Kate into a frantic hunt to expose the true identity behind this suspicious figure.
In the wake of a shocking homicide that brings attention to her squad, Kate finds herself navigating treacherous terrain in the realm of espionage. Simultaneously, she strives to preserve her family bonds and safeguard her standing.
The film “Secret Service” was collaboratively written by Bradby and Jemma Kennedy from “The Buccaneers,” and it’s helmed by directors James Marsh, known for “Man on Wire,” and Farren Blackburn, recognized for “Gangs of London.
I’m thrilled to join the dynamic and captivating realm of this contemporary spy story, working alongside this gifted group of creators,” Arterton expressed.
Working together with Tom Bradby, Jemma Kennedy, James Marsh, and the exceptional crew at Potboiler promises an exhilarating experience. I’m eagerly anticipating the opportunity to breathe life into this tale, with a superb cast by my side.
Secret Service will premiere on ITV1 in 2026.
