ITV announces new London-set drama from makers of The Crown
As someone who has always been captivated by the intricacies of royal life and the drama that often unfolds behind closed doors, I am absolutely thrilled about ITV’s upcoming series, “The Lady.” The producers of Netflix’s beloved show, “The Crown,” have once again managed to unearth a tale that is as riveting as it is tragic.
ITV has announced a new London-set drama series from the producers of Netflix’s The Crown.
Titled “The Lady“, this four-act drama is inspired by real-life events, tracing the “ascent and descent” of Jane Andrews, a woman who once served as a dressmaker to the Duchess of York. In 2001, she was found guilty of murdering her fiancé.
In the early ’90s, Jane was hired as Sarah Ferguson’s personal wardrobe assistant, a surprise to her friends and family in Grimsby, following her response to an advertisement in the women’s magazine “The Lady”.
In the upper echelons of British society, Jane found herself, but subsequently lost her position working for the Duchess following nine years of dedicated service.
After experiencing a significant downfall, Jane subsequently encountered the charming businessman Thomas Cressman, and found herself deeply captivated by him.
Later on, the relationship that Jane had built all her dreams upon started showing signs of fractures, leading to unfortunate outcomes.
The Crown season 5 cast
Lee Haven Jones is slated to direct a new series based on a script written by Debbie O’Malley, who has previously worked on “Harlots.” The acclaimed producers of “The Crown,” Left Bank Pictures, are also involved in this project. Production will commence early in 2025, and further details about casting will be shared at an appropriate time.
Back in 2001, when I found myself standing trial for the murder of Thomas Cressman, the news spread like wildfire across the globe, capturing everyone’s attention.
However, beneath the sensational headlines, there was a profoundly intricate, heartbreaking, and contemplative narrative unfolding – a journey delving into feminine aspirations, human vulnerability, and a tragic sequence of occurrences that ultimately claimed a life.
This tale, intertwined with our persistent concern about social class and our unwavering fascination with the British monarchy, remains just as timely today as it was two decades back.
The Lady will begin filming in early 2025.
