ITV announces new crime drama from team behind Ben Miller’s Professor T
ITV Studios has unveiled a fresh crime series titled “A Taste for Murder” that hails from the creative mind behind “Professor T“.
The upcoming series introduces Warren Brown from “Trigger Point” and Phyllis Logan of “Downton Abbey.” This story centers around a Met detective who, following a profound personal loss, moves to the Italian island of Capri with his daughter. As fate would have it, he becomes entangled in local mysteries involving homicides.
In this adaptation, Brown is set to portray DCI Joe Mottram, a key figure spending his summer with his in-laws. Meanwhile, Logan will be Elena Da Vinale, an intelligent, fiercely devoted, affectionate woman who was married to Brown’s late wife and runs the family restaurant.
Beau Gadsdon from “The Crown” will take on the role of Angelica, Joe’s vivacious teenage daughter who is grief-stricken following her mother’s death and pushes away her father, while Cristiana Dell’Anna from “Gomorrah” portrays Lara Sarrancino, a stern and ambitious police inspector in Naples.
Joining the cast are Urbano Barberini from Casino Royale, playing Gennaro Da Vinale, a renowned local chef and family leader; Alessandro Fella from Barbarians, portraying Luca, Gennaro’s nephew; Gaia Scodellaro of The Equalizer 3 as Daria, a local divorcee working in the kitchen; and Alessandro Bedetti from Those About to Die as Daniele, a young charmer who becomes smitten with Angelica.
The show titled “A Taste for Murder” hails from the creative mind of Matt Baker, one of the co-creators of Professor T. He likened the series to a blend of “family drama” and “detective fiction.
He shared that the program delves into the complexities of preserving affectionate bonds while dealing with hardships like trauma and sorrow, all while intertwining a string of bizarre murders that seem to originate from the captivating Mediterranean island where the story unfolds.
As a passionate writer, I’ve found immense joy in blending elements of crime and culinary arts, infusing them with the unique ingenuity of the Brits and the fiery passion of Italians. It’s been an authentic delight for me to craft these stories.
The six-part production, a collaborative effort between ITV Studios, is set to air on streaming platforms in the United States and Canada via BritBox.
