It’s the End of an Era for a Major 14-Year-Old Isekai Series
The iconic run of a popular series that started in the early 2010s, following hit anime like “Sword Art Online” and “No Game No Life,” has concluded. The manga version of “The Devil is a Part-Timer,” which began its serialization more than 13 years ago (and 14 years after the original light novel series), has now reached its final chapter.
In the official statement from Manga Mogura RE on their former platform (Twitter), they announced that the first manga adaptation of the series penned by Wagahara Satoshi, illustrated by Hiragi Akio, and adapted by Oniku concluded in the July 2025 issue of Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh. This issue was released in Japan on May 27. A concluding volume, Volume 24, is scheduled to hit stores on June 26, 2025, with additional details about the release date to be revealed later. The franchise initially began as a series of Japanese light novels authored by Wagahara and illustrated by Oniku, spanning from 2011 to 2020.
The Devil Is a Part-Timer’s Official Manga Series Finally Ends After Over 13 Years
Among the ongoing adaptations of “The Devil Is a Part-Timer!” franchise, the recently finished manga version was one of the last ones running. The light novel series ended in 2022, and a spin-off manga titled “The Devil Is a Part-Timer! High School” ran from 2013 to 2015. Now, since its conclusion in 2023, only one semi-regular official release of the franchise remains active: “Hataraku Maou-sama no Meshi!”, a spinoff manga offering short stories about food.
In this alternate reality show, we follow the story of Satan who aims to dominate the world of Ente Isla, only to be challenged by the valiant Emilia and forced to retreat. Following his escape through a portal, Satan finds himself in contemporary Tokyo, masquerading as Sadao Maou and taking on a part-time job at a fast food joint known as MgRonald’s. As fate would have it, Satan encounters a girl named Emi Yusa (who is in fact Emilia), while it becomes clear that other characters from Ente Isla are also grappling with the predicament of adapting to life on this new world.
The TV show “The Devil is a Part-Timer!” first appeared in 2013, consisting of thirteen episodes. Fresh installments came out in 2022, and the second season was divided into two sets of twelve episodes each. The final episode was broadcasted in 2023, but since then, no updates about the anime continuing to adapt the story have been shared. This implies that the manga’s recent ending might be the last glimpse fans get of the main storyline for a while.
In English, you can find the spin-off series of “The Devil is a Part-Timer!”, titled “The Devil is a Part-Timer! High School”, published by Yen Press. Unlike the original story, this version takes place in an alternate universe where the characters assume ordinary high school roles. In this case, Satan transforms into a teenager and climbs the ranks of his student council. The series also introduces Emilia as a new transfer student who persists in causing problems for him, just as she did in the main story.
The basis for this franchise is derived from the Japanese light novels written by Wagahara, which are published by ASCII Media Works. These have since been translated into English by Yen Press. The series has resulted in 21 primary novels, two prequels, a spin-off novel, and six additional volumes. At present, only the 21 main novels are accessible in English.
The last installment of the manga version of “The Devil Is a Part-Timer” is set to come out on June 26, 2025. As for the English release date by Yen Press, it’s still undecided.
