I Know What You Did Last Summer‘s upcoming sequel is set to turn the horror “up to a hundred”.
Under the guidance of director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson from ‘Do Revenge’, the forthcoming film offers a fresh take on the storyline of the 1997 horror classic, introducing an unexpected twist.
A fresh band of companions encounters a hook-wielding murderer a year following their bonding through a car crash, only to realize that they’re experiencing a recurring horror. They then seek aid from the two remaining survivors of the 1997 Southport Massacre for guidance.
In a recent conversation with People magazine, Robinson characterized the movie as “light-hearted” and referred to it as an “exciting, popcorn-worthy summer spectacle.
Yet, she emphasized that the frightening aspects have been significantly intensified, resulting in this installment being “significantly harsher” compared to its previous version.
She pointed out that each murder in this film is carefully planned, a stark contrast to the first one where it seemed like he was merely tracking and attacking his victims.
“There’s not a lot of gore or blood or violence in the first one. There certainly is in this one.”
Actress Jennifer Love Hewitt, returning as Julie James from the original film, has confirmed the production and shared that she finds the upcoming sequel to be “chilling” or “frightening.
In addition, the actress shared insights on her get-together with Freddie Prinze Jr., who will once again portray Ray Bronson, a fellow survivor of the Southport Massacre.

She remarked, “It was as if we were at a high school reunion.” She continued, “I felt like I had butterflies fluttering in my stomach and my heart racing, because it’s been 150 years since I last saw this person, and now, here we are again.
Alongside Hewitt and Prince Jr, the sequel will also feature Madelyn Cline from Outer Banks, Sarah Pidgeon of The Wilds, Tyriq Withers from Legacies, Jonah Hauer-King known for his role in The Little Mermaid, and Chase Sui Wonders, a star from The Studio.
The group is completed with the inclusion of Billy Campbell, Gabriette Bechtel, Austin Nichols, Lola Tung, and Nicholas Alexander Chavez.
I Know What You Did Last Summer hits cinemas on July 18.
