As I reflect upon the poignant narrative of Si and his late partner Mischief Myers, I am deeply moved by their journey, marked by camaraderie, resilience, and an unyielding spirit that transcends even death’s grasp.

Chef Si King, from the Hairy Bikers duo, has announced that he plans to carry on developing more shows alone, after the sad passing of his longtime partner in cooking and friendship, Dave Myers, due to cancer this year.

Yes, at a special showing of The Hairy Bikers: You’ll Never Ride Alone, set to air on BBC One on Monday, December 23, 58-year-old Si opened up about his feelings of loss and shared his future plans.

Reflecting on Myers’ death in February, Si said: ‘Grief comes and comes and goes and goes.’

It’s crucial for me to uphold the memory of the Bikers, and it’s equally essential that I continue pursuing my desires as Dave made it clear and firm that I should. If our roles were reversed, I would hope he’d do the same for me.

Confirmed is that the Hairy Bikers series will no longer continue, and future endeavors are expected to take a significantly distinct turn, as he misses his long-term partner in these ventures.

‘Things would have been different if he were still here, that was me and Dave. Now, I can’t help but wish for a change in circumstances. This is something of great significance to me.’

As a lifestyle guide, I found myself moved to tears by the powerful words spoken in the climax of the series, where Myers showcased an extraordinary display of bravery that left an indelible mark on us all.

While I was traveling on the A1 in a northerly direction, my phone rang. It was him, saying, “Hey, it’s me. I need to share something important with you. Would you mind if we stopped for a moment?” So, I pulled over, and he revealed that he had been diagnosed with cancer.

Reflecting on our latest journey together, I couldn’t help but be awestruck by the indomitable spirit displayed by this remarkable individual. The joint endeavor we embarked upon, not just Dave and myself, but our dedicated team who have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with us for a decade, even two, is a shining example of his unwavering resolve.

‘His determination was unwavering – he yearned to hop back onto his motorcycle and hit the open road once more. He sought to escape the label of a cancer patient and reclaim his identity as a biker, much like the Hairy Bikers. I believe this ambition fueled his perseverance.’

Si said he feels a responsibility to preserve Myers’ memory and their shared legacy.

As a devoted admirer, it’s my solemn responsibility to preserve the memory, the remarkable legacy that Dave, our beloved Hairy Biker, meticulously crafted. This legacy is not just a collection of achievements, but a vibrant tapestry of joy, camaraderie, and culinary adventures that he wove with such passion. For him, life was a celebration, something he cherished deeply, and I am honored to safeguard his memories as if they were my own. In essence, Dave was more than just a friend; he was the embodiment of my best mate.

In summary, Si stated that the forthcoming program serves as a heartfelt homage to Myers while also providing fans with a sense of finality. He added, ‘It’s quite touching. Isn’t it something you’d rather avoid making? Yet, it was crucial to honor the man and his accomplishments. And it was essential to bid farewell to our viewers as well.’

Si described Myers as a ‘perfect example’ of brotherhood and community.

‘The event served as a powerful symbol. It represented camaraderie, unity, and provided a platform for individuals to express their sorrow openly, honoring a genuine, honest man who had passed away.’

Pondering our relationship, Si remarked, “We shared a special bond, a brotherhood and warmth, as we’d each navigated life in unique ways.

‘Since we were ordinary guys from the working class, we simply worked hard and held onto hope. It seemed like shared optimism was what united us. We saw that same spark of determination in one another.’

He also shared a humorous memory of Myers’ initial encounter with his wife, Lil.

From the very start, Dave felt undeniably smitten. It’s unclear if Lil shared the same sentiment, given her initial reaction might have been along the lines of, “Who on earth are these two?” However, I could tell by Dave’s gaze that he was smitten. He confessed, “I genuinely like her a lot.” To which I responded, “Well, aren’t we just full of surprises today! Do you really feel that way? Fancy grabbing a drink and discussing it further?

Despite the challenges, Si is staying busy with new ventures.

‘I have a stage show; I’ve had opening nights. It still needs a little bit of work, but we’ve got that. I’m opening a takeaway restaurant kind of vibe in Sunderland. I’m moving house. I’ve got a book finished. Do I need to go on?’

Moving ahead, Si feels certain that Myers’ presence will stay with him. “Indeed, especially when they shut down the M6 – just like old Mischief Myers.

Reflecting on our bond, I echoed a sentiment that truly represented us: ‘In the vein of free-spirited Bikers, Dave would encourage me to keep the thrill going, share knowledge, stimulate minds, and occasionally push boundaries. And I’m convinced that’s exactly what he’d want for me.’
