As a devoted fan, I find myself deeply saddened by the passing of Elizabeth Buttrose, sister-in-law to Australian media legend Ita Buttrose. This woman, who was just a week away from her 79th birthday, leaves behind a rich legacy and countless memories that will undoubtedly be cherished by those who knew her.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’m deeply saddened to share that my cherished sister-in-law, Elizabeth Buttrose, a renowned figure in the vibrant city of Sydney, passed away peacefully last Friday at an Eastern Suburbs care facility.
Elizabeth, approaching her 79th birthday within a week, had been battling various health problems for quite some time, stemming from several strokes she experienced about ten years back.
Her funeral is set to take place on October 1, the day she would have turned 79.
In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Ita Buttrose shared her sorrow, stating, “My sister-in-law suffered from a prolonged illness and has found rest now.
‘She was loved by all, and we have wonderful memories from when we were younger.’
Elizabeth was the surviving spouse of the former William Buttrose, a well-known figure in banking who once occupied top positions at Macquarie Bank, Lloyds Bank, and NatWest. He was also a trusted expert who often appeared on Nine’s Today program.
William passed away in 2006 at the age of 62 after a two-year battle with cancer.
Originally, the pair – who became well-known for running into each other at a mutual crash-gate party during their twenties – went on to have three offspring: Richard, society figure Lizzie, and Evie, a prominent lawyer within the Corrs Chambers Westgarth firm.

The sad news comes after Ita stepped down from her role as chair of the ABC in March.
As Kim Williams is set to assume the role, Buttrose stated on Stellar’s “Something To Talk About” podcast that it was merely her turn to step aside.
‘Five years is quite a long time to serve the ABC’ she told editor-in-chief Sarrah Le Marquand.
As a seasoned lifestyle advisor, I recognize that while some pieces may endure multiple eras, I myself am a timeless woman who embodies the essence of maturity and grace.
As a dedicated admirer, I can’t help but reflect on myself, acknowledging that I’ve reached a certain milestone in life and find myself in robust health. Yet, despite these reassurances, I can’t ignore the need to take stock of my cognitive abilities as well.

In another five years, imagine what life might look like. It’s crucial to recognize when it’s time for a change within oneself, and I sensed that moment. This feeling wasn’t connected to any present circumstances. She made it clear by adding this statement.
In an unanticipated move disclosed in August, Communications Minister Michelle Rowland announced Ita’s resignation as the head of ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation).
At one point, it was stated that Ms Buttrose is a towering figure in Australia’s media sector, and the government acknowledged her outstanding service in her role as chair of the ABC. This sentiment was expressed by Rowland as he honored the legendary broadcaster’s tenure leading the national public broadcasting organization.
