“It Would Have Been Great”: Green Lantern Director Addresses How He Thinks The 2011 DC Movie Could Have Been Saved
Director Martin Campbell ponders over ways the Green Lantern film from DC Comics might have been rescued and steered clear of its 2011 reception shortcomings.
In an interview with The Direct recently, Campbell reflected on the enduring impact of Green Lantern in today’s superhero landscape. Though acknowledging the film’s detractors, Campbell expressed fond memories of collaborating with Ryan Reynolds on the project. In fact, he wished that Reynolds had penned the script himself, as he candidly disclosed:
“I loved working with Ryan Reynolds so much that I wished he had written the script instead.
It’s understandable that people didn’t care for the project. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out. As the director, I take full responsibility. But let me tell you, Ryan was hilarious, and we had an amazing time on set. I loved working with him and Blake Lively too, who was fantastic. Honestly, I can’t help but think that if Ryan had written the script, it would have been even better. Yet, he often criticizes it. However, his success lies in the fact that he met Blake Lively during this project.
